Things to do in UCONN Storrs
College basketball is a huge deal in Connecticut. Experiencing a women's basketball game at Gampel Pavilion is almost a necessity. If basketball is not of interest, visiting the animals (horses, sheep and cows) on Horsebarn Hill Road might be. After visiting the animals, a walk to the Dairy Bar is in order. One of the best things about the Dairy Bar is knowing that the ice cream came from the milk that came from the cows that are grazing in the fields just up the hill. After all that walking and snacking, it might be time to visit one of the two live theaters on campus. The Connecticut Repertory Theater is run by the School of Dramatic Arts and runs shows through out the school year. Then there is the Jorgensen Center for Preforming Arts. This 2600-seat theater stages shows that would appeal to just about every audience: children's shows, ballet, puppet shows and the Boston Pops Holiday show. Just off campus is the Storrs Farmer's Market, which is another interesting visit.
Places to eat & drink in UCONN Storrs
While on campus, there are many options on where to eat. Some are just for students, like the dorm dining halls. Others, like the Dairy Bar and the Beanery, are open to the public. Just off campus, in downtown Storrs, there is Mooya (a burger place), Dog Lane Cafe and Fenton River Grill. Mooya has received glowing reviews from student employees at the Visitors Center.
Need to know
The UCONN Storrs campus has as many as 12,000 students living on campus and many more commuters traveling to campus. Therefore, the campus is a very busy place. During home basketball games (unless you are attending a game), move-in days (late August) and Parents Weekend (usually the second weekend in October), the campus is even busier and not a great time to visit.
