Curator’s statement
Costa Rica is where nature and soul meet in style. I’ve explored the country for decades — first with a backpack, then with my kids and now with a refined eye for immersive luxury. From rainforest suites where howler monkeys serve as alarm clocks to glowing seas and healing thermal waters, this is a destination that still surprises me, every time. The warmth of the people and the commitment to sustainability make it a joy to return to — and share.

Things to do in Costa Rica

The Whale Tail formation in Marino Ballena National Park, seen at sunset — a key migration route for humpback whales.
Surf & hike in Uvita
This stretch of Pacific coast is paradise for surfers and nature lovers alike. The rhythm of the waves, the jungle trails, the waterfalls — it’s magic.
Birdwatching & slow mornings at Kura
The staff sets up telescopes and shares their deep knowledge of the region’s birds. Scarlet macaws, toucans, motmots — you don’t even need to leave your terrace.
Explore Manuel Antonio National Park
Sloths with babies, chattering monkeys and jungle trails that lead to wild beaches. Even if you’re staying at Arenas del Mar (and never want to leave), the park is a must.
Bioluminescent boat ride at Isla Chiquita
At night, the water glows with light. We dipped our hands in and watched the ocean sparkle — it felt like another planet.
After-hours soak at Tabacón
As a hotel guest, you get access to the private thermal gardens — quieter, more elegant and beautifully maintained. We were picked up in our bathrobes for a late-night soak under the stars.
Whale watching in Uvita
If you're visiting between July and October or December and April, don’t miss this. Uvita is one of the few places in the world where humpback whales from both hemispheres cross paths.
Places to eat & drink in Costa Rica

Tropical breakfast with star fruit
Kura Restaurant – Uvita
Sustainably sourced, beautifully plated, always local. From fresh fish carpaccio to tropical cocktails — stylish yet grounded.
Mirador at Arenas del Mar – Manuel Antonio
We had breakfast while parrots flew past. Dinner was candlelit and full of Costa Rican flavor. Great for families and romantic escapes.
Donde Tía Nora – Isla Chiquita
Unfussy, island-fresh and exactly what you want after a swim or a boat ride.
Ave at Tabacón – La Fortuna
Elegant and welcoming — the perfect place to unwind after your soak. Try the local fusion dishes and order a cocktail with passionfruit.
Manuel Antonio Beach Shack (Food Truck)
A casual taco truck by the beach. Nothing fancy, everything delicious. Great smoothies, too.
Local Beach Spot – Uvita
Down the dirt path to the sea — rice, beans, grilled fish, cold drinks. Simple and real.
Need to know
A 4x4 rental is a must for this route — especially in rainy season.
San José is optional: Grano de Oro is elegant and historic, but we recommend moving on quickly to the coast or rainforest.
Kura is adults-only — ideal for honeymoons or private buy-outs.
Hotels like Kura and Arenas del Mar are part of Cayuga Collection, known for sustainability, local sourcing and community involvement.
