Curator’s statement
St. Croix is the ultimate relaxing escape. The clear blue waters of the Caribbean lulled me into my most relaxed state. On this girls' trip, we rotated between reading by the pool and napping on the beach. The island boasts stunning views and easy-to-navigate streets, making it an easy and picturesque island to explore. It was everything we needed for our late summer weekend getaway. Bonus for not needing a passport traveling out of the US.

Things to do in St. Croix, USVI
If you’re looking for a slow, quiet trip, St. Croix is the perfect destination. All of the activities feel designed to slow down and take a deep breath. We visited in the off-season, when the island is at its slowest. With all of the beaches being public beaches, and none of the crowds, every beach we relaxed on felt like it was ours for the moment. When you visit St. Croix, you have to designate some time for just laying on the perfect white sand beach.
Christiansted is one of two main cities in St. Croix. Located on the North side of the island, Christiansted is perfect for taking a boat ride, visiting the historical sites, shopping, waterfront dining or just strolling around the boardwalk. We rented a car for the weekend we spent in St. Croix and Christiansted was easily accessible for a day trip or a night out.
Frederiksted, being the second of the two major cities, also boasts a walkable pier and plenty of places to get some fresh seafood and a shot of Cruzan rum. Frederiksted, to the Southwest of the island is historically the quieter of the two towns most days and is a great place for water activities.
For a slow vacation vibe, my favorite activity, next to beach lounging, was driving up the coast to sightsee. There are tons of great spots to stop along the way, to get out, enjoy the breeze and soak up incredible views of the ocean.
If you run out of things to do on St. Croix. St. Thomas and St. Johns are a quick flight or ferry ride away. With equally stunning views, beautiful beaches and good vibes, St. Thomas or St. Johns would make an excellent day trip or overnight stay if you want to avoid the rush.
Places to eat & drink in St. Croix, USVI
While looking for a quiet place to eat on a hot afternoon in Christiansted, we found Nate’s Boathouse right on the boardwalk. The view of the water and the breeze right from the table made the experience even better. But the food could stand on its own, from light bites like sandwiches and fries to the freshest salmon bowl you can find, it was the perfect lunch spot.
Also in Christiansted, El Leon is serving up contemporary Mexican eats in the most adorable open-air mex-themed restaurant. The drinks are stiff in the best way, the food is delectable and the churros are a must. Everything we ate here was a 10/10.
We spent most of our dinner hours coming back from the beach or the pool at our resort and ate a lot at the onsite restaurants of the Carambola Beach Resort. The restaurant did not disappoint. The drinks were delicious and they perfectly complemented the freshest fish tacos you can find.
If you are looking for a more local dining experience, La Reine Chicken Shack is the place to go. Casual and Caribbean, it's great for a quick bite or a lazy meal.
