Curator’s statement

Geneva is my happy place and a gateway to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Switzerland and France. I have cherished memories of tagging along on my dad's work trips, captivated by the charm and elegance of this city. Its prime location on Lake Geneva offers easy access to picturesque towns like Yvoire and Montreux, making it an ideal base for exploring the region's natural beauty. In just under two hours, you can find yourself in cities like Lyon and Annecy, where you can indulge in delightful French cuisine. Geneva itself is a treasure trove of history and culture, boasting a vibrant food scene that showcases local chocolates and cheeses alongside stunning lakeside views. This city is not just a destination — it’s an immersive experience that captivates the senses and inspires the soul.

Things to do in Geneva

Breathtaking view at the top of Mont Blanc.

Activities in Geneva:

  • Indulge in Switzerland's world-renowned chocolate, with a Chocolate Tasting Tour in Old Town, exploring Geneva by land and water. Immerse yourself in the sumptuous world of Swiss chocolate and explore this delightful indulgence in all its vibrant forms. Uncover hidden artisan shops where chocolate is crafted using traditional methods, and savor a variety of exquisite treats that tantalize your taste buds.

  • Enjoy a scenic boat ride on the crystal-clear waters of Lake Geneva, taking in the stunning views of the Swiss Alps and charming lakeside towns. It’s a peaceful and beautiful way to appreciate the landscape.

  • Stroll through the cobblestone streets of Geneva’s Old Town, where historical buildings, narrow alleyways and landmarks like St. Pierre Cathedral transport you to another era. Explore quaint cafes, art galleries and small boutiques along the way.

  • Geneva is home to luxury shops and local markets, offering everything from designer goods to handmade Swiss crafts. The Rue du Rhône is a must-visit for those looking for high-end fashion, while smaller markets offer a more local shopping experience.

Towns and activities around Lake Geneva:

  • This medieval French village, Yvoire, located on the lake, is known for its picturesque streets, flower-filled gardens and stunning views. A visit to the Jardin des Cinq Sens (Garden of Five Senses) is a must for its peaceful atmosphere and intricate design. For lunch with a view, Hotel Restaurant Du Port will not disappoint — be sure to get a table outside!

  • A vibrant city on the lake's northern shore, Lausanne is home to the Olympic Museum, a beautiful waterfront and plenty of great restaurants. Take a walk along the Ouchy Promenade or explore the historic architecture of the Old Town.

  • Famous for its annual jazz festival and the stunning lakeside Château de Chillon, Montreux is a must-see. This is one of my favorite places along the lake. Their picturesque promenade is perfect for a leisurely stroll while enjoying views of the Alps.

  • A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces offer breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Wine lovers will enjoy tasting local Swiss wines while wandering through the terraced vineyards. Opt for a Private Wine Tour of Lavaux for the insider tips and help navigating the ‘Wine Road’.

Day trips

  • Annecy, known as the "Venice of the Alps," is truly the most charming town in France. It has Venice-worthy beautiful canals, an enchanting old town and of course, the pristine Lake Annecy. Explore the Château d'Annecy or simply enjoy a peaceful walk along the water.

  • France’s culinary capital, Lyon is a food lover’s paradise and only two hours from Geneva. Explore the city’s famous bouchons (traditional Lyonnaise restaurants), historic old town, and impressive Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. Secret Food Tours are my favorite way to eat my way through a city and learn, of course!

  • Visit the quaint and medieval town of Gruyères, famous for its cheese (of course!). You can tour the Gruyères cheese factory to see how the renowned Swiss cheese is made and visit the fairytale-like Gruyères Castle, perched high on a hill.

  • For mountain lovers, Chamonix offers world-class skiing in the winter and stunning hikes during the warmer months. Take the cable car up Mont Blanc for breathtaking panoramic views, or explore the charming alpine town at the base of the mountains.

Note: All of these amazing towns are all under 2 hours from Geneva!
