Things to do in Vail
Vail Ski Resort — Over 5,000 acres of ski trails, there is something for every skill level here. Vail is famous for its back bowl terrain.
Beaver Creek Ski Resort — This ski area is located just 12 minutes from Vail but tends to have smaller crowds.
FIS Stifel Birds of Pray Race — This FIS Downhill ski race takes place mid-December at Beaver Creek. As of 2024, you can watch the men and women test their skills on this challenging course.
Vail gondola ride — Take the gondola ride up Vail Mountain all season year round to catch the sweeping views from the top of the mountains.
Cross country skiing — Visit the Vail Nordic Center to get a crash course on cross-country skiing. This is perfect for those who are looking for heart-pumping action without the adrenaline of downhill skiing.
Vail dog sledding — Have adorable huskies lead you through the Colorado Trails near town.
Ice skating — Take a twirl around one of the two outdoor ice-skating rinks in Vail. One is in the heart of Vail village, while the other is located in the heart of Lionshead Village.
The Colorado Snowsport Museum — This museum takes about an hour to explore the numerous exhibits on the history of winter sports in Colorado.

Slope Room — This relaxed and inviting restaurant provides organic local options of new American dishes.
Left Bank Restaurant — This French restaurant with fine-dining and an extensive wine list has been a mainstay in Vail village since 1970.
Elway’s - This classic steak house chain was started by legendary Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway.
Garfinkel’s - Eat and drink like a local at Garfinkle’s when you stop on their way off the mountain for a low-key beer and burger.
Tavern on the Square — Located in the Arrabelle, this restaurant offers modern New American dishes for the whole family.
Montauk Seafood Grill — This seafood restaurant in Lionshead Village offers a variety of seafood dishes that everyone will enjoy.
The Swiss Chalet Restaurant — Located in The Sonnenalp Vail, this is known for its fondue and raclette.
Vail Brewing Company — With two locations (Vail and Eagle) this small craft brewery offers up a taste of local beer in the heart of the Rockies.
Need to know
Vail is a completely walkable town with good public transport, there for there is no need for a rental car. You can take the free local bus between Lionshead Village and Vail Village to get to restaurants, shops and gondolas.
