Ouidah’s Route of Slaves & Door of No Return: Walk through history along this sad yet essential route that traces the journey of enslaved Africans before they were taken across the Atlantic.
Gamvie, the Floating Village: Often called the “Venice of Africa.” This village on stilts has a glimpse into the unique lifestyle of the Tofinu people, who built their community on Lake Nokoué to escape slavery.
Abomey Royal Palaces: A UNESCO World Heritage site. These palaces once were home to the kings of Dahomey. The museum gives an in-depth look at the kingdom’s history and traditions.
Porto-Novo, the Capital City: Benin’s capital has beautiful colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian influences and busy markets. Don’t miss the Ethnographic Museum and the Honmé Museum.
Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Cotonou: This red and white church is a beautiful landmark in the heart of Benin’s largest city.
Python Temple in Ouidah: A sacred site where pythons are revered in Vodun (Voodoo) religion. Visitors can learn about this fascinating spiritual practice and even hold a python!
Grand Popo Beach: A peaceful stretch of coastline perfect for relaxing, where you can take part in fishing, boat trips and exploring local fishing villages. There is a great mix of locals and visitors, perfect for unwinding with fresh coconut water and grilled seafood.
River Adjarrá: A scenic river surrounded by beautiful landscapes and traditional fishing villages. Take a boat ride to explore the scenery and discover the daily life of local communities.
