Day 1
You are likely to arrive in Costa Rica by early afternoon. You will be picked up at the airport by an amazing local who will point out sloths and other stunning animals on your way to your first hotel in Arenal.
One of my favorites is Nayara Springs. After you settle in, you can take a long soak in one of the pools fed by the hot springs. Then make your way to dinner at one of the wonderful on-site restaurants while watching the sunset overlooking the volcano.
Day 2
On day two, you can start your day with breakfast and head to the espresso bar where they roast their own coffee. Then head out for a day in nature by walking the Arenal hanging bridges park and checking out the magical waterfalls.
Day 3
On day three, you can plan for a day of adventure and fly through the forest canopy on a zip line or pack your camera and check out the local wildlife on a safari river cruise. If you are up for a horseback ride through the rainforest, you can also choose to spend the day with a private guide who will have you ride through nature alongside the Arenal volcano and treat you like family.
Day 4
Be sure to spend at least one full day relaxing at the hotel, enjoying one of the many pools fed by the hot springs, getting lost exploring the gardens, and scheduling a spa treatment right in middle of the rainforest.
Day 5
Plan to spend one day exploring the Arenal Volcano National Park. Enjoy hiking through the rainforest and stumbling upon all the unique animals and beautiful wildlife. The tranquility of the surroundings makes it a pleasant stroll. The highlight is the viewpoint that offers a stunning view of the volcano. This is such a memorable spot for anyone seeking a tranquil escape.
Day 6
Before heading back to the airport, be sure to spend 2-3 nights at the Retreat, Wellness Spa and Resort. This hotel is located close to San Jose Airport, so is a perfect way to end your trip. Be sure to get a room with a view and book all of your meals included.
Upon arrival grab your robe and head to one of the gorgeous pools to instantly relax and soak in the most beautiful sunset as you sit with a glass of wine or cup of tea.
Day 7
You can start your day with yoga or a morning guided hike, followed by a healthy breakfast with french press coffee. This is the only resort I've ever been to that I had no desire to leave to try an off-site restaurant. The food is out of this world and the presentation is that of a Michelin star rated restaurant.
Spend the day by the pool or getting a spa treatment. Say hello to one of the peacocks and soak in your last moments before heading home.
