A dramatic sunset at Waikiki.
Curator’s statement

Waikiki is a special place because it holds many fond memories. I have been visiting this beautiful beach in Hawai'i since I was a child, and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. The crystal-clear waters, warm sun and soft sand make it the perfect spot for relaxation and fun. Not to mention the delicious food, lively culture and breathtaking sunsets that make Waikiki a truly unique and special destination. Every time I visit, I am reminded of the joy and happiness that this place brings to me.

Day 1: Arrive in Honolulu

Skybox Taphouse is an Italian restaurant to go upon arrival.

After landing on Oahu, receiving your lei from your driver and checking in at your hotel, I am sure that you must be starving. Head over to the International Market Place to grab a quick bite to eat. A few of my favorites are Moani Waikiki Island Bistro and Bar and Skybox Taphouse. My go-to dishes are the Hoisin pork belly and Pulehu chicken at Moani’s. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a good pizza after a long travel day — the CBR and BBQ pork never miss.

Day 2: Visit Pearl Harbor

The historic Pearl Harbor during the day time.

Wake up early and take a shuttle ride to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial for a history lesson. See the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri and the Aviation Museum. Afterward, head across the street to Aloha Stadium. Do some shopping at the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet before catching the shuttle back to the hotel.

Day 3: Polynesian Cultural Center

Entrance of The Polynesian Cultural Center, a Hawaiian theme park and living museum.

Visit the Polynesian Cultural Center. It offers an immersive experience into the diverse cultures of Polynesia. You can explore authentic villages, enjoy traditional performances, participate in hands-on activities and savor a luau feast. It's a vibrant journey through the rich traditions and history of Hawai'i, Samoa, Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga and Aotearoa (New Zealand). The luau is always one of the best meals I have while I’m vacationing there. It allows you to taste dishes from each of the regions of Polynesia.

Day 4: Circle Island Oahu Tour

The scenic view you will see on the Circle Island Tour of Oahu.

The Circle Island Tour of Oahu is a comprehensive journey around the island, showcasing its most iconic landmarks and natural beauty. Highlights typically include stops at the stunning Hanauma Bay, the majestic Byodo-In Temple, the scenic North Shore with its famous surfing beaches, the lush Waimea Valley and the historic Dole Plantation. This tour provides a well-rounded view of Oahu's diverse landscapes, cultural sites and local flavors.

Day 5: Beach Day

Beach day at Waikiki Beach.

Have a beach day at Waikiki Beach. It is a quintessential island experience. With its golden sands, clear turquoise waters and the backdrop of Diamond Head, it's perfect for sunbathing, swimming, surfing or simply relaxing. The beach's lively atmosphere is complemented by nearby shops, restaurants and entertainment, making it an ideal spot for both relaxation and fun.

Additional days

Dole Plantation in Oahu

Another suggestion if time permits is a trip back to the Dole Plantation. A trip to the Dole Plantation on Oahu offers a delightful blend of history, fun and tropical beauty. Visitors can explore the world’s largest maze, take a scenic train ride through pineapple fields and learn about the history of pineapple cultivation in Hawai'i. The plantation also features a beautiful garden showcasing native Hawaiian plants and a variety of interactive exhibits. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a refreshing Dole Whip and browse the gift shop for unique pineapple-themed souvenirs. It’s an educational and entertaining destination for all ages.
