Things to do in Sydney

An aerial view of the green grass on brown rocky mountains under blue sky and white clouds during daytime.

Sydney Opera House

Purchase "behind the scenes" tickets for this iconic landmark. Yes, you will need to arrive early in the morning, but it will be well worth it. A word of caution: if you need to cancel your tickets, you will be given a voucher to use versus a refund. If you wish to do the general tour, plan your time so you can enjoy a light lunch on the lower concourse at the Opera Bar with great views of the harbor. It is a very busy place, so be patient.

The Rocks

Learn about the beginnings of Sydney in 1788 by a stroll through the Rocks neighborhood where the convicts set up and lived. An hour and a half tour is available where not only will the guide show you notable places, but will share the stories of those early years. Highly recommend.

Harbor Bridge Climb

While in the vicinity of The Rocks neighborhood, go ahead and schedule your "death-defying" bridge climb nearby. Is it worth it? The rush you will get by looking out 360 degrees at all of Sydney is definitely worth it. No need to fear heights or limited body strength... you can do it!

Blue Mountain

West of Sydney is the Blue Mountain range where I could have spent more days and evenings. Waterfalls, walking trails, the Three Sisters and more will renew and refresh your spirit. Consider reserving a small group tour to drive you from Sydney to the Blue Mountains. A memorable day trip for anyone.

Hop On-Hop Off Bus

You just arrived in Sydney and are experiencing a little jet lag. Take the double decker bus and let someone else show you the sights. There are two routes: ride one on the first day and the other on another day. It is easy to hop off and hop back on as the name implies. Definitely a way to get a quick overview of where and what you might like to visit more in depth.

Places to eat & drink in Sydney

Darling Harbor

This is where you can find a different restaurant for each day of your trip.

Nicks Seafood Restaurant

Seafood heaven is how to describe this harbor restaurant with views. The shareable seafood platters are famous and include every type of seafood imaginable. I opted for the Kangaroo filet instead and did not leave a bite on my plate! There is a children's menu as well.

Casa Ristorante Italiano

Located on King's Street Wharf, the authentic Italian food you adore can be found here. Be sure to order the salt & pepper calamari or the homemade arancini. You will not be disappointed. There is a sister restaurant called Bottega Coco, located very close by if you wish to indulge another day.

Rivareno Gelato Barangaroo

Yes, you will come back here more than once during your visit to Sydney. The best gelato outside of Italy. Be sure to try one of the gelato sticks; Sweet Alabama and Contessa were the favorites in our group.
