Curator’s statement

Having grown up in Saint Thomas and visiting often, I have the perfect spots to see and enjoy from a "local's" perspective. The beauty of the Virgin Islands is the ease of travel, no passports and some of the bluest water you will ever see in your life. For those wanting to explore, there are great historical sites such as Fort Christian, Blackbeard's Castle and the 99 Steps. Nightlife is great and it is a foodie paradise! Shopping is another great perk of being duty-free! Saint Thomas is a perfect destination for families, couples, groups or a friend getaway!

Beaches

  • Magens Bay — A must-see, horseshoe-shaped and nature trails with water as blue as the sunniest day.

  • Coki Point — Snorkeling and beautiful sand.

  • Sapphire Beach — Quiet and beautiful with views of Saint John.

To Do

  • Skyride to Paradise Point — After some breathtaking views over Saint Thomas, grab the world-famous Bailey's Bushwacker when you arrive. Check for times on their website.

  • Mountain Top — Known for delicious daiquiris and views that are incredible from the top of the island.

  • The 99 Steps — These historical 99 steps were built from the ballast bricks of tall ships that came from the old world. There are 103 steps.

  • Emancipation Garden — Take a visit here. It is a commemoration of the freeing of enslaved people in Saint Thomas by the Danish governor on July 3, 1848. This is 15 years before the Emancipation Proclamation did in the US.

  • Fort Christian — A true historical building built in the 1600's. It was police headquarters for a while and then a prison. Today it is a National Historic Landmark with a museum that is full of items and photos all about the island.

  • Sib's — A true local spot. See more in the places to eat below.

Need to know

Saint Thomas locals are friendly and love to share stories. Their "Saint Thomian" accent brings an immediate smile to your face! Grab some local fruit while you are there. Ask for some "ganips"- a cherry-sized fruit that you won't be able to stop eating!
