Things to do in Prince Edward Island
Greatest Hits
The beauty of visiting an island is that you’re surrounded by so many different beaches that you could visit a new one every day. The sand colors range from white to red – a feast for your eyes at every turn.
If you enjoy water sports, you’ll find options for kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding.
Seafood lovers will want to book a clam digging excursion so they can fish for their own supper. There are many options for fishing and sailing trips. Golfing is also a very popular activity on the island.
PEI is famous for being the hometown of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the famed author of the classic children’s novel Anne of Green Gables, a book originally published in 1908. Fans of the book can take their pick between visiting The Anne of Green Gables Museum, the author’s birthplace, and even enjoying a production of the Broadway show at the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown. There are many stores selling memorabilia and even a dedicated chocolate store, Anne Chocolates.
A note from Souvenir
TPEI is first and foremost a summer destination and we love the feeling of being on island time. The pace of life is nice and slow, and everyone is a little more relaxed, which is how vacations should be.
Don’t forget to bring a souvenir from The PEI Dirt Shirt Company so you can wear red sand when you’re back home. But maybe don’t wear your nicest bathing suits at the red sand beaches, as the dyeing effect is real.
Places to eat & drink in Prince Edward Island
Coffee & breakfast
Receiver Coffee: A great spot to satisfy your caffeine needs along with a pastry or two. This coffee shop also serves some classic breakfast options.
Lunch & dinner
Richard's Fresh Seafood: The lines are long – get there as early as you can! – but the wait is well worth it. The seafood is right off the boat, and the lobster rolls and fish and chips are truly unmatched. Upstairs, the deck overlooks the water, making it a quintessential and unmissable spot.
Papa Joe's: It would be easy to discount it based on its location (inside a strip mall) but the food more than makes up for the less than scenic location. Be sure to try their famous potatoes and the seafood chowder, but the mussels are also extra fresh. There are plenty of kid-friendly options, too.
Boom Burger: A fast food chain with local, quality ingredients.
The New Glasgow Lobster Suppers: A traditional experience you won’t want to miss. It’s great to go for the old-fashioned atmosphere and to hang out with the locals, but the fresh lobster is of course the highlight of the night.
Blue Mussel Café: Near Brackley Beach, this seasonal restaurant offers all of the classic seafood options prepared in a more refined way. The chowder is particularly amazing and the deck is a lovely place to enjoy a delicious meal.
The Malpeque Oyster Barn: You’ll have to drive down a tiny road to get there, but it’s all part of the adventure. This real barn turned seafood restaurant serves some of the best oysters on the island as well all the seafood you can dream of.
