Day 1-2: Eats and Explore
Breakfast at Café du Monde: Beignets and coffee at this iconic spot are the first things one must do in New Orleans. Then visit Jackson Square, surrounded by historic buildings, the St. Louis Cathedral, and street performers.
Lunch on the Riverfront: Central Grocery has the best muffuletta in New Orleans. The lines will be long by noon, but the wait is worth it. Order a quarter, half or whole to go and have a picnic along the Riverfront. While there, explore the Riverfront, or consider taking a steamboat cruise on the mighty Mississippi River.
Visit the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum. Discover the history and cultural influence of Voodoo. You can do this on your own or book one of their guided walking tours to visit popular local Voodoo attractions like Congo Square. A 24-hour notice is recommended to schedule a tour.
Dinner at Antoine's: Antoine’s is the oldest restaurant in New Orleans, and it is so much fun. Every dining room tells another part of the New Orleans and Mardi Gras story, through photographs and memorabilia.
Fun fact: At the end of the meal, ask your waitstaff if a tour is available. They will often indulge if you’ve been generous enough.
Day 2-3: Walking Tours
Start the day with breakfast and jazz at Arnaud’s or Commander’s Palace. Book a walking tour and take a guided stroll through the historic Garden District, known for its beautiful mansions and oak-lined streets. Several tours also include the legendary Lafayette Cemetery.
Relax in Audubon Park, known for its large oak trees, lagoons, and walking paths.
Explore the shops and boutiques on Magazine Street and have lunch at La Petit Grocery (Thursday-Saturday) or La Boulengerie (7 days a week)
Spend the evening in the Marigny neighborhood, known for its colorful and lively nightlife. The legendary Adolfo’s is a must-see for its no-frills atmosphere and hearty Creole-Italian menu.
Day 3-4: Brunch and Music
Spend the morning in City Park, home to the New Orleans Museum of Art and the picturesque Botanical Garden.
Jazz Brunch on Frenchmen Street (Sunday): Head to Frenchmen Street for swing dancing and jazz brunch at Maison.
Pro tip: It only costs $10 to reserve a table for up to three friends.
Dine al fresco at Jewel of the South: Jewel of the South’s elegant courtyard provides a welcome break from the chaos of the French Quarter.
Day Trips:
Extend your trip and book a day tour to Oak Alley Plantation or one of the many swamp tours to explore more of what makes Louisiana unique.
