Things to do in Cambodia
Angkor Wat - No trip to Cambodia is complete without visiting Angkor Wat, which is listed as one of the Wonders of the World. Its impressive size overlooks the pond, reminding visitors that it was built over 900 years ago. The best time to see it is at sunrise, as the view is incredible, and you can avoid the heat.
Temples Near Siem Reap - While Angkor Wat is the most famous temple in Cambodia, it is not the only one worth visiting. There are numerous temples in the area, and you can purchase a multiday pass that allows you to explore all of them.
A visit to Southeast Asia wouldn't be complete without a ride in a Tuk Tuk, and the best experience can be found with the Tuk Tuk Ladies in Siem Reap. This business began when a mother sought to provide for her child and has now grown to include over 30 female Tuk Tuk drivers. Their vehicles are clean, the ladies drive safely and they are very friendly. I had the pleasure of riding with Ms. Kim, the original Tuk Tuk Lady, who was incredibly friendly and helpful.
Cambodia is a country of striking beauty, but it also carries a dark and tragic past. This is most evident at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum. It was originally a school but was transformed into a prison by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. During our visit, we had the opportunity to meet a former inmate who shared his experiences from that time.
A fantastic way to explore Phnom Penh is by boat: You can take boat tours that guide you along the river, providing a different perspective of the city. Options range from lively party boats where you can enjoy the music and atmosphere to dinner boats where you can savor a delicious meal.
Another excellent way to explore Phnom Penh is by cyclo or tuk-tuk. It's amazing to witness the blend of old and new in the city and how it has transformed since the end of the Khmer Rouge regime. Additionally, this mode of transportation makes it easier to navigate through traffic, as both can maneuver effortlessly on the busy streets of Phnom Penh.
The Phare Cambodian Circus is an amazing experience and definitely worth a visit if you are in Siem Reap. It’s a fantastic way to spend your evening, filled with entertaining acrobatics and comedy throughout the show.
Discover one of the many markets in Siem Reap: One of these markets is dedicated exclusively to products made in Cambodia. Additionally, there's a fantastic street market that you can reach by tuk-tuk, where you'll find a wide variety of items.
