Advisor - The Best Castles and Country Houses to Stay in Scotland
Curator’s statement

One of my favorite places in the world is Scotland. We have been on many occasions. But the time we stayed in a castle on the Isle of Mull remains one of my favorite travel memories. Scotland’s rich history, dramatic landscapes and legendary hospitality make it a dream destination. Staying in a castle or country house offers more than just luxury. It’s an immersion into the stories, traditions and timelessness of this remarkable land. Scotland is also a wonderful destination for combining rest and relaxation with activities like scenic walks, golf, fishing, water sports and much more. Here’s my guide to the best places to stay, dine and explore to make the most of your Scottish adventure.

Things to Know About Visiting Scotland

  • Weather: Pack layers. Scotland’s weather can be unpredictable year-round. Summer is mild, while winters are cold but atmospheric.

  • Getting Around: Renting a car is ideal for exploring the countryside. Trains and buses are reliable for intercity travel. I can also help with private guides and transfers for those that don't fancy driving.

  • Currency: Scotland uses the British Pound (£). Scottish banknotes are widely accepted in the UK.

  • Best Times to Visit: Late Spring (May to June) and early autumn (September) offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds. Summer is busier but great for festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe.
