Curator’s statement
Bruges is a quaint but bustling medieval town in northern Belgium. Take a step back in time as you stroll along the city's canals, admiring the stunning architecture of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Its smaller size makes it the perfect weekend trip during an extended European adventure.

Things to do in Bruges, Belgium
Do a walking tour! I did two - one for gastronomy, where I tried all the classics: fries, waffles, chocolate and beer. And then a night tour to learn the city's history.
Enjoy a free harp concert from a master and learn all about the different types of this instrument. This concert was a surprising highlight of my trip, as it was as informative as it was beautiful.
No trip would be complete without a canal tour. These short but sweet trips provide unique views of the city and brief history lessons.
Then, experience the opposite viewpoint by climbing up the Belfry of Bruges for an astonishing overview of the city.
Visit Beguinage, a monestary garden home to a few sisters that you may find ambling about. A reminder that silence is requested during your visit.
Places to eat & drink in Bruges, Belgium
Beer or drinks
Brewery Bourgogne des Flandres: A local favorite, this brewery also offers tours. Take a seat in the garden or admire the canal while doing a tasting.
De Garre: House beer served with cheese is the perfect combination for me! This hidden gem is located down a small side street just off Grand Place and is not to be missed.
Duvelorium Belgian Beer Bar: This fun beer bar is situated above Grand Place, making it the perfect people-watching location. Try the classic Belgian blonde Duvel.
Groot Vlaenderen: A beautiful cocktail bar for when you need a break from all the beer.
Le Trappiste: This well-known beer bar is located in an 800-year-old medieval cellar.
Chocolate
The Chocolate Line: This decadent chocolate shop offers a variety of flavors, styles and shapes. It is truly some of the smoothest chocolate I've ever had.
Waffles
Go.fre: While there are plenty of waffles to choose from, try this fun spin on the tasty treat. It also makes it easier to eat and walk, so you don't have to pause your adventure.
Full meals
Café Vlissinghe: The oldest bar in Bruges, this historic restaurant is a little bit of a trek from Grand Place. Go for a late lunch and relax in the back garden while watching pétanque.
