Things to do in Kennebunkport, Maine

The image captures a serene coastal setting with a house perched on the rocky shore, under a clear blue sky.

Explore Dock Square: Nestled along the river, Kennebunkport’s “downtown” Dock Square exudes quaint New England charm. Here, amidst a backdrop of historical buildings, spend a couple of hours roaming the streets and popping into eclectic boutiques and local art galleries. Check out Good Earth Pottery for handcrafted and unique treasures, or pick up a beach read at Fine Print Booksellers.

Walk, Drive, or Peddle Down Ocean Drive: This scenic path runs from Dock Square to Cape Porpoise. Marvel at the ocean views and classic seaside mansions. Top points of interest include the Bush Family Compound (which is still used by the family today) and St. Ann’s Episcopal Church - a beautiful late 1800s stone structure.

Check Out the Nature Trails:

  • BRIDLE PATH: Easy 5.6-miles (1hr 40mins), pup friendly, a ten-minute drive inland.

  • TIMBER POINT TRAIL: Easy 2.4-miles (45mins), pups not permitted, limited parking, a twenty-minute drive north.

  • MT AGAMENTICUS: Various trails. An easy / moderate option, a thirty-minute drive south.

Go for a Sail: Pineapple Ketch and Schooner Eleanor both offer 1.5-2 hour sailing trips throughout the day, as well as private charters. Morning sails are best for those who want a calmer ride, while afternoons can be more exciting. Opt for an evening sail for something extra romantic. BYO snacks and beverages are permitted.

Take a Lobster or Oyster Tour: Rugosa Tours offers educational and hands-on boat excursions leaving from the Kennebunkport marina. Choose from a 75min Lobster tour, or a ninety-minute learn-to-shuck oyster tour partnering with Mere Point Oyster Farm.

  • Batson River Brewing and Distilling: Elevated pub food served alongside crisp beers and creative cocktails.

  • The Boathouse: An upscale yet relaxed marina-side restaurant serving local seafood and American-fare - a great choice for lunch or dinner.

Cafés / Treats:

  • Dock Square Coffee House: A casual spot to grab coffee and baked goods.

  • Fiafia: Fuel up with smoothie bowls, coffee and matcha.
