Curator’s statement

New Orleans has been dubbed the “most unique” city of the United States. Thanks to its vibrant nightlife, distinctive music, steeped history, cultural traditions, annual celebrations and delectable cuisines, New Orleans has earned its reputation. Even so, life here is more laid back (hence its nickname: The Big Easy), and while there’s more to see and do to stretch well past 24 hours, there’s a lot you can pack into a day in New Orleans.

Your 24 Hours in NOLA

A group of people walking down a street next to tall buildings.

Start your day off with breakfast beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde, a staple of the city. The Original French Market coffee stand has been operating since the 19th century 24 hours a day!

Next, head on a guided half-day tour to the Whitney Plantation. In operation from 1752-1975, this plantation produced indigo, sugar and rice and over a dozen historical structures have been preserved. This eye-opening experience centers the history of enslaved Africans and tickets often sell out well in advance so reservations are highly encouraged.

Once you make it back into the city, stop by the Garden District. Stop by Joey K’s for some homestyle cajun cuisine for lunch. After you’ve had your fill, stroll the oak tree lined streets dotted with period cottages to stately historic mansions.

Venture back to the heart of NOLA to see Jackson Square and St Louis Cemetery before the nighttime begins. Take one of many after dark walking tours that center ghost stories, true crime, voodoo and/or vampires. Then you can drink and dance the night away by exploring the nightlife along Bourbon Street and the French Quarter.
