Day 1: Layover in Rome
My last visit to Rome was brief, but we filled our time perfectly. If you ever have an overnight layover in Rome, I have the perfect itinerary for you!
The most important thing was getting the hotel location right. And boy, Condominio Monti has the perfect location. Situated on an adorable, small cobblestone street, the amenities are as great as the location itself.
We landed around 8pm and went to the hotel to drop our things and freshen up for our 10pm reservation at Ristorante Rinaldi, which was about a 10-minute walk from the hotel and even less than that to our next stop, the Trevi Fountain. But back to the restaurant. Ristorante Rinaldi is semi-underground and very much a romantic setting with top-quality ingredients, an insane wine list and amazing service. I couldn't recommend it enough.
Around midnight, we finished dinner and headed to the Trevi Fountain. It was super busy but everyone was polite and it was easy to move around and try to get nice photos, and the fountain looks beautiful all lit up at night. After this, we headed back to the hotel to get some sleep.
Our flight the next day wasn't until around 1pm, so in the morning, we had a great breakfast in the hotel up on the rooftop patio, then we took an 11-minute walk to the Colosseum. There are tons of people trying to sell the tickets and I'm still not sure if we got ripped off or not, but we were on a time crunch and wanted to make the most of it, so it was worth it to us. I want to say we spent ~$35 a person.
We felt like we really made the most of our short time in Rome and definitely recommend the long layover if it's in your cards.
