Curator’s statement
Venice evokes a sense of timelessness, romance and mystery. Its labyrinth of canals and ancient stone buildings create an atmosphere of both grandeur and intimacy, as if you're stepping into a living work of art. The city whispers of history, with every corner holding stories of merchants, artists and explorers.

Things to do in Venice
I highly recommend starting with a walking guided tour during which tales and local stories will bring the walls to life. So much in this city is in the details found on doors, fountains, walls and are often overlooked. Afterwards, do turn off your GPS and get lost in the meandering streets, you are sure to fall upon surprising wonders at every corner.
During my visit, I went on a boat tour with a local Venetian who was a diving instructor doubling as a tour guide passionate about showcasing the more residential area of Venice. These exchanges are always so insightful and a highlight of my trips.
Of course, Saint Mark’s Basilica and the Doge’s Palace are a must see. At the later, do the private guided tour to access the secret chambers, the torture room and Casanova's prison cell among other treasured rooms. A recommended read after your visit: My Escape from the Piombi of Venice by Giacomo Casanova. It brings history to life!
A lesser-known museum, the Palazzo Mocenigo: The Study Center of the History of Textiles, Costumes and Perfume, houses the vast collections of ancient fabrics and clothes. Completely renewed and expanded at the end of 2013, the itinerary winds its way through twenty rooms, evoking the different aspects of the life and activities of a Venetian nobleman between the 17th and 18th century, and on display are mannequins wearing valuable ancient garments, true pieces of art. I found the perfume table especially interesting with all the different scents, some recognizable others a mystery.
Be blown away by the Teatro La Fenice: Whether on a guided tour or with the audioguide, it is a feast for the eyes with gilded moldings, crystal chandeliers and rich velvet seating,
Visit the hidden cloisters of the San Francesco della Vigna: A peaceful and lesser-known monastery with a tranquil garden and stunning Renaissance architecture, offering a break from the crowds.
Stroll through the Cannaregio district: A peaceful, less touristy neighborhood where you can explore quiet canals, hidden courtyards and authentic Venetian life away from the crowds.
Places to eat & drink in Venice
For some authentic gelato, Gelato di Natura
For lunch or dinner, Hosteria Castello
For a relaxed atmosphere, Ai Mercanti
For an Aperol Spritz, the rooftop bar at the Hotel Danieli or Terrazza Aperol
