Curator’s statement

Visiting New York City for my birthday (November) was always on my bucket list, but I also wanted to experience Christmas time in the city. I found the sweet spot right before peak holiday travel - first week of November - and was able to do and see everything I wanted to, and more! NYC is vibrant, iconic and a food lover's dream! With so many things to do all year round, you’ll find yourself wanting to come back again and again.

Day 1: Sightseeing & City Cruises

The image depicts a city’s daytime skyline with a notable tower, viewed across a wavy water body.

If you’re arriving in NYC in the morning/early afternoon, head to Pier 83 in Midtown and take a cruise with Circle Line - I highly recommend the Best of NYC or Landmarks. It’s a perfect way to see many of NYC’s iconic landmarks - like the Vessel, Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge - without the hassle of walking and taxiing after hours of travel.

When you’re finished with the cruise, make your way towards Times Square. If you’re feeling hungry or thirsty, stop by Social Drink & Food - the Raspberry Rascal is delicious and refreshing, and the Pita & Artichoke Yogurt Dip Basket is a perfect snack.

Once you’ve made it to Times Square, find your way over to the red steps, take a selfie and soak in the energy surrounding you. Times Square is known for its eclectic mix of street performers from aspiring musicians and Broadway stars, to dancers and costumed characters. An experience you won’t want to miss.

For dinner, head to Gatsby’s Landing (located within Hotel Mela) for a New American cuisine with a seasonally curated menu. To cap off the night, grab a drink at Elsie’s Rooftop.

Day 2: Visit a Bagel Shop & Head to the Empire State Building

The image portrays Times Square at night, alive with crowds and radiant with vivid billboards.

A trip to NYC isn’t complete without visiting a bagel shop. My go-to is always a simple bagel and schmear, but there are also many fantastic bagel sandwiches to choose from! You’ll find a Zucker’s in most parts of town, which I enjoyed two of the three mornings we were in the city.

Next up is the iconic Empire State Building. Enjoy breathtaking views of New York City's skyline from its observation decks, and marvel at the architectural grandeur and its significance in the city's history and culture. Whether it's day or night, the panoramic view from the top is one you’ll never forget.

If you’re visiting in November and through the holiday season, you’ll want to check out the Winter Village at Bryant Park. Just six blocks from the Empire State Building, you’ll find yourself immersed in a winter wonderland. Enjoy ice skating, a cozy rinkside lounge for your après-ski cocktail, private igloos and shopping from local vendors and artisans for gifts and souvenirs.

Before heading to a show, enjoy a classic Italian meal at Lattanzi’s. The Scaloppine di Pollo ai Piccata was delicious! Now, you’re off to Broadway! Make sure you get your tickets in advance, if you want a prime seat. I chose Wicked as my first ever Broadway show, and it did not disappoint! Other noteworthy options include: The Lion King, Chicago and Hamilton.

Day 3: Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge

The image captures the 9/11 Memorial, with names inscribed and skyscrapers under a clear sky, marked by the text “WORLD TRADE CENTER.”

For the early birds: Start your morning with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to beat the crowds. Here you’ll be able to get your iconic photo on the bridge with the NYC skyline in the background.

Up your experience at the One World Observatory by booking their lunch experience, which includes: table with a view, one drink and one appetizer and one drink/person and admission into the observatory. After you’re finished at the observatory, head down to visit the 9/11 Memorial before heading to the 9/11 Museum.

Head over to Greenwich Village and dine at Carriage House. (Make sure you get their rolls and the butter candle to try!) Have a little more energy left in the tank? Grab a cocktail at 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar where you’ll find a beautiful evening view of the Empire State Building. Don’t be worried if it’s a little chilly, as they have blankets and heaters to keep you warm!

Day 4: Stop by the Chelsea Market

The image showcases Central Park’s greenery against the backdrop of New York’s urban skyscrapers.

Grab some coffee from Chelsea Market and head to the High Line in Chelsea. This old rail line offers beautiful views of the river and city and will lead you straight to the Chelsea Market. Here you’ll find a variety of shops and food vendors at one of the best local markets in the US.

Just past the High Line you’ll find The Edge NYC. Its innovative design and observation deck, which features a glass floor that extends out from the building, is a must see while you are visiting the Big Apple!

After you’ve worked up an appetite from your walk and sightseeing, stop at Friedman’s in Hell’s Kitchen for brunch. The Korean Chicken Wings are a great shareable app, and the Hand Cut Pastrami is a local favorite you won’t want to miss!

To round out your trip to NYC, you can’t miss taking a stroll around Central Park. It is a beautiful escape from the bustling city. You’ll be surrounded by quaint walking trails, picturesque ponds (which you can experience via gondola!), and stunning views of the city's skyscrapers. You may even be surprised to know there is a zoo inside Central Park!

Need to know

Visiting NYC during the holidays is magical, but the city offers so many wonderful things all throughout the year. It is truly a remarkable place to visit, and one I can’t wait to go back to!
