Day Trips near Lisbon
North: Ericeira is known as “Onde O Mar É Mais Azul” (the place where the sea is bluer). It is a beautiful fishing village to visit for a quick city escape. It is known as being Europe’s first world surfing reserve and surfers travel near and far to enjoy these waves. The town also offers stunning natural landscape, rich Portuguese culture and great seafood restaurants. The best part is that it’s only a 40-minute drive from Lisbon.
East: Visit Evora, the capital city of Alentejo. The best way to travel here is by train and will take you an hour and half. Évora is a UNESCO World Heritage site and because of its historical architecture is known as Portugal’s “Museum City”.
South: The Arrábida Natural Park provides some of the most stunning natural landscapes in Portugal. It is the ideal day trip for visitors looking for beautiful hiking trails, as well as some of the best beaches in Europe including Portinho da Arrábida, Praia do Creiro and Praia dos Galapinhos. I do want to note some of these beaches are a bit harder to access due to steep pathways. The drive along the coast is one of the most scenic routes in Portugal and will take around 40 minutes by car from Lisbon.
