Curator’s statement
Nestled in the heart of California's wine country, Sonoma offers a charming and picturesque escape for wine enthusiasts and travelers. Sonoma is often seen as a bit more laid-back and diverse in terms of winery experiences. You can find both boutique wineries and larger, more established ones, often with a more relaxed and welcoming ambiance.

A Perfect day in Sonoma
If traveling from SFO Airport, make your first stop at Ram's Gate Winery. Stay on US-101 North for approximately 41 miles to reach the town of Sonoma.
Located on the picturesque foothills of the Sonoma Mountains, the winery is a sight to behold. With its stunning architecture and beautiful gardens, it's the perfect ambiance to kick off your weekend in wine country. Try their "Wine and Bites" tasting* and enjoy a flight of five highly acclaimed wines expertly paired with delectable bites.
After your visit to Rams Gate Winery, you can head to Cornerstone Sonoma, just a short drive away.
Cornerstone Sonoma is a unique destination with shops, gardens, art installations, and dining options. Take some time to explore the various shops, art exhibits, and enjoy a meal or a snack at one of the dining establishments.
It's time to check in to your hotel! Book a stay at the luxurious MacArthur Place Hotel. This charming retreat offers a blend of modern comfort and historic elegance, set amidst lush gardens and olive groves. The hotel offers a range of room types, from spacious suites to guest rooms. Some of the rooms have private patios and fireplaces, adding to the overall charm and comfort of the stay. The newly renovated spa (opened October 2023) is not to be missed!
Finally, stroll on into the Sonoma Plaza, the historic town square. The Plaza functions as the town center, surrounded by charming shops, boutiques, restaurants, wine tasting rooms, and art galleries. It's a hub of activity and a popular gathering place for locals and visitors.
For an afternoon tasting, check out the beautiful Three Sticks Winery*. Known for producing high-quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines. The winery often offers tastings in a beautifully restored historic building, designed by the renowned Ken Fulk.
Lastly, for dinner, enjoy a table at the ultimate California-cool restaurant: Valley*. It's simple, seasonal and sustainable food and wine. I always recommend a table on their back patio and their olive oil cake. Cheers over a "Valley Spritz!"
Welcome to wine country.
