Advisor - A Multi-Gen Trip to Cabo San Lucas
Curator’s statement

Grab your passports, we’re going to Cabo! The weather is always warm, the people are friendly, the food is delicious and the activities are endless. If your family is separated by geographical distance, flights are easy to come by and non-stop from major cities all over North America. Our favorite part of Cabo is that it is full of cultural, authentic experiences that everyone in the family can enjoy. Allowing us to connect and engage in ways that aren't always possible in our day-to-day lives.

Things to do in Cabo San Lucas

  • Sea of Cortez charter for a sunset cruise, viewing Lover's Beach and El Arco in a private setting with F&B and on-board hosts. Kids can "steer the boat" and listen to stories about the famous area where the Sea meets the Pacific. Also good for whale watching.

  • For fishing enthusiasts, charter a private boat for Marlin (or whatever is in season) out of the Cabo Marina. Most will filet your catch for you so you can take it to a local restaurant to prepare (if you don't feel like cooking) or back to the villa to prepare. Make sure to spend some time sampling the drinks and cuisine at the marina before you leave.

  • Local food tour: I also like to kick off my trips with a food tour. It’s a great opportunity to see the city from a local point of view, eat where they eat and hear authentic stories of the area’s history. Plus, you’ll visit places you otherwise wouldn’t and find the spots you want to visit again before you leave (and every time you come back).

On our first trip to Cabo, we went on a food tour and one of the stops was for tamales out of large steel barrels about two blocks off the main strip (for $1 each!), and my husband and I still talk about those at least four to five times a year!

Places to eat & drink in Cabo San Lucas

  • La Lupita Taco & Mezcal: Located in town, up the hill from Medano Beach, La Lupita Taco & Mezcal offers a lively, family-friendly atmosphere. It features open-air indoor/outdoor seating, live music and tacos. Lots of tacos. With more than 30 variations to choose from, including vegetarian options, there’s something for everyone in the fam. If you’re feeling adventurous, try “A Taste of Lupita,” their specialty app featuring grasshoppers. Need a drink to wash those legs down? They also offer Mezcal flights, and don’t miss the corn bread and ice cream. So delish!

  • Flora's Field Kitchen: More than just a place for a meal, Flora’s Field Kitchen is an authentic experience in itself. Nestled on a 25-acre farm near San Jose del Cabo, it’s a bit off the beaten path, but trust me, it is well worth the journey. You’ll want to plan to spend three to four hours so you have time to explore the stunning grounds and shops, which include wildlife and fields where the kiddos can frolic. When it comes time to eat, you can either enjoy the fresh, seasonal, farm-to-table fare, or enhance the experience by participating in one of their culinary classes. Classes include a farm tour and keepsake recipe book (minimum age of 5 to participate), making it a great option to make memories and take home a meaningful souvenir. Bonus: If there’s room left in your tummy, hit up the ice cream stand. Or use it for bribes!

  • The Office: If you’re looking to spend some time in town with some beach sprinkled in, you’ll want to head to The Office on Medano Beach. The vibe is a relaxed beachfront setting with a spirited atmosphere where the kids can play while adults enjoy a cocktail or fresh seafood. They have an extensive menu that offers both Mexican specialties and classic American fare. However, it’s really the location and entertainment that makes it a must. This is another spot where you can spend half a day or more and partake in the many water activities, including swimming, parasailing or a jet ski or banana boat ride. You can also hail a water taxi to save your steps and head over to the marina.

Need to know

Coordinating a multi-generational trip can be daunting. How do you pick and agree on a location? What activities do you do that are fun and inclusive for everyone? Where do you eat when your dad has a sophisticated palette, your kids only eat food out of the microwave and your brother is a vegetarian? True story.

Well don’t you worry, I’ve got you covered! My family has been doing multi-gen trips since before it was mainstream and have been to all the places and done all the things. Now I’m here to share some of the deets of my personal fav multi-gen trip. It’s so great we’ve done it twice!
