Curator’s statement
Pacific Harbour, Fiji, is one of those trips you won't stop thinking about for a very long time. When you visit Fiji, you are visiting an adventure destination paired with a relaxing beach getaway. You get the best of both worlds, sipping a cocktail by a quiet secluded beach and rafting down river rapids just hours later. But what makes Fiji so unique is the cultural immersion you can be a part of on your journey. Experience traditional Fijian fire-walking or learn how to cook the Fijian way. Visiting the villages in Fiji gives you a true look into their way of life and the rich history within the islands, and the people of Fiji will welcome you with open arms.

Things to do in Fiji
Visit the capital city, Suva. Your resort can arrange for you to drive to the capital, Suva, where culture flourishes. Visit Fiji's iconic hotel the Grand Pacific, and enjoy a delicious lunch in town. You can walk through the vast produce markets where vendors sell fresh and delicious produce. Also, check out the Fiji Museum, where you can learn more about the culture and heritage of the Fijian people.
Watch a traditional fire walking ceremony. Fijians are known to have fire walkers who come from an island just across from Pacific Harbour. The hotel we stayed at, Nanuku, had a performance of these fire walkers at night where they demonstrated walking on stones above a fire. This was a magical experience, an unexplainable ability only a few can perform.
Snorkel the Beqa Lagoon. Head over to one of Fiji's most anticipated snorkel areas and watch sea life while swimming in some of the most beautiful waters.
Learn to cook traditional Fijian dishes. At Nanuku, we were able to take a small cooking class on how to make kokoda, a type of ceviche made in a big wooden bowl outside with views of the ocean. This was an extremely interesting and delicious experience!
Learn to make Fijian arts and crafts. A nice perk for parents with children at Nanuku is that each day they have nannies available to watch children and show them fun crafts and art projects. These include making hats out of leaves and making coconut bowls.
Hike up to different waterfalls. My family and I were able to take a longboat upriver to then hike past beautiful greenery and wildlife to reach the waterfall. This was probably the most fun adventure I've been on during a vacation. The boat went past multiple tiny villages where the people waved hello and we hiked past wild cows roaming the grass. The waterfall was not harsh but just right to swim under and do a few cannonballs into the water.
Raft down the river for an adventure. Hike up a mountain and tube down a river rapid!
Take a boat at sunset to experience the true beauty of Fiji.
Take a village tour. This tour was led by the resort. We were able to visit the small villages around Pacific Harbour where we learned about local culture and ways of life.

Need to know
Nanuku Resort was extraordinary. We had a villa with a pool, jacuzzi and hammock, which we lounged around on while watching the sunset. We had a beach almost all to ourselves in the backyard and were served a beautiful breakfast each morning. The staff was exceptional — they made us feel welcomed and cared for from the moment we arrived. They even sang us a song goodbye which made it even harder to part with Nanuku. The luxury of this resort was outstanding, and it somehow worked so well with the variety of unique experiences that we took part in during our time in Fiji.
