Things to do In Florida

Seashells on beach sand

Many people are drawn to Marco Island because of the stunning white sand beaches, but there are plenty of other things to do in town without even stepping off "the rock!" Here are some local gems that I absolutely love.

  • Coffee at the Marriott: Whether you're staying at the Marco Marriott or not, one of the things I love to do in the morning is take a stroll along the beach and treat myself to a coffee at their cafe. Here's a little secret of mine - the rooftop is open all day, so head up there to sip your coffee while enjoying the panoramic view of all the beachgoers.

  • Marco Island Farmers Market: It's not just a fantastic spot to get all your local groceries for your stay, but also a perfect place to enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch! Don't miss out on Jimmy's Java for your caffeine fix; it's my absolute favorite cold brew on the island!

  • Otter Mound Preserve: The Otter Mound Preserve, also known as 'Indian Hills', is nestled in a residential area of Marco Island. Take a leisurely stroll along the short trail loop in this 2.45-acre preserve to discover a unique maritime hammock plant community, featuring beautiful gumbo limbo trees. This area holds a significant archaeological history dating back to the time of the Calusa natives. Although it's a small preserve, you'll find informative placards about the local history and the fascinating native plants and animals.

  • Marco Island Historical Museum: The cutest little museum with free admission. Definitely worth a short visit to delve into the history of the island and the infamous Key Marco Cat, a remarkable artifact that was unearthed more than a century ago.

  • Marco Golf and Garden: Get ready to be blown away by the most picturesque putt-putt course you've ever laid eyes on! This tropical miniature golf course is a haven for entertainment for all ages.

  • Sunset Fire Dancers On The Beach: Another Marco Marriott gem, the enchanting fire dancers who grace the beach with their nightly performances. Treat yourself to a seat at Kane's Tiki Bar & Grill, where you can sip on delightful cocktails and enjoy the stunning sunset before the dancers take center stage.

  • Stans: If you're in Marco on a Sunday, you have to go to Stans! Just off Marco, on a small island called Goodland, the town comes out to enjoy good food and live entertainment.

Getting on the water:

  • Rent a boat: Rent a boat for the day and set sail towards Keewayden, a popular local hangout. Be sure to arrive early and witness the water gradually filling up with boats as the day unfolds. Get ready to soak up the sun and good vibes.

  • Catamaran Tour: You can visit Marco without getting on the water! Discover the magic by venturing onto the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Marvel at the vibrant marine life in their natural habitat. You're sure to spot dolphins along the way! Cool Beans Cruises

  • CraigCat Tour: Experience the backwaters of the 10 Thousand Islands on this unique experience! I was hesitant to do this tour at first, but it ended up being so much fun! A two-seat catamaran with a 30 horsepower outboard engine-driven speed boat allows you to go up to speeds nearing 30 mph! Backwater Adventure
