Day 1: Friday - Arrival and a Taste of Indy

Coffee and a sandwich

After settling in to your downtown hotel, make your way to one of the museums Indy has to offer. There's the renowned Indianapolis Museum of Art, showcasing a vast collection of art spanning multiple centuries and cultures. Alternatively, if you've got kids in tow, explore the fascinating exhibits at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the largest children's museum in the world, offering interactive learning experiences for all ages. For those interested in Native American and Western art, don't miss the Eiteljorg Museum, where you can explore a diverse collection of artwork and artifacts celebrating the heritage and culture of the American West. Whatever your interests, Indy's museums offer something for everyone to enjoy during your visit.

After your museum wanderings, get a tenderloin (a classic Hoosier sandwich) for dinner at Working Man's Friend. This classic dive bar is known for its delicious and generously sized breaded tenderloin and have been slinging them for decades. Cash only so come prepared. It's a must visit spot for anyone looking to experience authentic Hoosier cuisine.

Day 2: Saturday - Qualifying Festivities

Wake up and make your way towards the Speedway, stopping for breakfast at Charlie Brown's Pancake & Steak House. Located just a short drive from the Speedway, Charlie Brown's offers a classic diner experience with a wide selection of breakfast options, including pancakes, omelets, and hearty breakfast plates. The restaurant has a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. It's a great place to fuel up before heading to the Speedway for a day of racing.

Make your way to the Speedway and get a lay of the land. Take a guided tour and learn about its history and significance. Find a spot in the grandstand to watch the drivers compete in the qualifying sessions. Qualifying at the Indy 500 is a thrilling spectacle, with drivers pushing their cars to the limit in pursuit of the fastest lap times. Explore the Fan Midway and get up close to the latest IndyCar Series cares, meet drivers and team members, and learn more about the sport of auto racing.
After leaving the Speedway, head over to the Fountain Square neighborhood. Stop by Amelia's bakery and grab pastries for tomorrow morning. From flaky croissants to decadent cinnamon rolls, each pastry is expertly crafted with care and attention to detail. Indulge in buttery scones, delicate fruit tarts, and melt-in-your-mouth danishes, all made with high-quality ingredients and baked to perfection. Then head next door to Bluebeard for dinner where you can savor inventive dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients in a stylish and inviting atmosphere.

On the way home, stop by a grocery store to pick up essentials for tomorrow. Tail-gating is an essential experience at the Indy 500. Join fellow fans in the parking lots surrounding the track for pre-race celebrations, BBQs, and camaraderie.

Day 3: Sunday - Race Day Excitement

Rise early and pack your sunscreen. Dress in layers as the mornings are cool but then the day heat up as the sun hits the asphalt. You'll need to plan to arrive several hours early to get through lines and find your spot. Don't worry about what to do before the race, The Fan Midway offers a variety of activities and vendors to enjoy before the green flag. Soak in the atmosphere and experience the excitement and energy of race day by mingling with fellow fans, enjoying live music performances, and immersing yourself in the festive atmosphere of the Speedway.

If you came for the race, you'll have grabbed tickets in the grandstand. You'll get spectacular, unobstructed views of the racing action as the cars zoom by at incredible speeds. The bleachers are filled with passionate fans from all walks of life, united by their love for auto racing. You'll feel the energy and enthusiasm radiating from the crowds creating an electric atmosphere that's contagious.

If you came for the party, the infield is where you'll want to be. Bring your lawn chairs and get ready to meet your neighbors. They've had to add trampolines and swimming pools to the list of prohibited items so you know the infield is where the party is. Enjoy the social and vibrant atmosphere and experience some of the best people watching Indy has to offer.

After the race, celebrate with fellow fans at one of the many post-race parties and events happening around Indianapolis. Reflect on the day's excitement and start planning your next trip to the Indy 500!
