Things to do in Minneapolis

Walk the Lakes
Known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Minnesota lives up to its reputation. Take a stroll around Lake of the Isles, Lake Bde Maka Ska or Lake Harriet in South Minneapolis. Along the way, you'll see locals whizzing by on rollerblades, bicycles, scooters or longboards. If historic architecture is your thing, marvel at the gorgeous homes lining the lakes, too.
Visit the museums
Art enthusiasts will love the Minneapolis Institute of Art, which features Monet masterpieces, stunning sculptures and exciting galleries. It’s conveniently close to Nicollet Avenue, affectionately called Eat Street, where you can explore a variety of worldly cuisines.
For contemporary art lovers, visit the Walker Art Center and its Sculpture Garden, home to the iconic and noteworthy Spoonbridge and Cherry by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. Science fans should check out the observatory at the Bell Museum on the University of Minnesota campus (though, technically in nearby St. Paul).
Go vintage shopping
Minneapolis has a booming vintage shopping scene that keeps growing year by year. In the North Loop, check out Hermine for a chic Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy aesthetic. In Northeast, Moth Oddities and Olio Vintage offer a mix of old-school, Western and classic vintage charm. Over in Uptown, you’ll find an array of vintage slips, tees and letterman jackets from multiple retailers.
Stroll St. Anthony Main Street
Romantics and history buffs will fall in love with St. Anthony Main Street. This charming area offers one of the best views of the city skyline along the Mississippi River. Grab a coffee or tea at FRGMNT, enjoy lunch at a nearby eatery and catch a movie at the Main Cinema to support local arts and cinema.
Attend a sporting event
Minnesota is home to the Timberwolves, Vikings, Wild and Twins. Head to US Bank Stadium, Target Field, Target Center or Xcel Energy Center to soak in the exciting energy that Minnesota sports fans exude.
Enjoy live music
With a fantastic music scene, Minneapolis proudly claims legends like Prince and Bob Dylan. Visit First Avenue, the iconic venue where Purple Rain was filmed, or head to Berlin for live jazz. If you can't catch either, don't fret. You’ll easily be able to find live music venues scattered across the city, from South Minneapolis to Northeast — or, try your own stab at it and belt out karaoke at a local dive bar!
