Things to do in Napa Valley
Stay at Dr. Wilkinson's Resort
Start your Napa adventure at the charming Dr. Wilkinson's Resort in Calistoga. Steeped in history, the resort boasts a rich legacy of mud baths and unique experiences for the whole family — adults 18 and over can enjoy a separate, hotter mineral pool. Let the kids loose on the swing, challenge them to a life-sized chess game or have some friendly competition with a game of cornhole. Insider Tip: In the afternoon, take a dip into one of two mineral pools — one comfortably warm at 80 degrees, and the other delightfully toasty at 94 degrees. Pools are open until 10 pm.
See Animals Up Close at Safari West
Imagine a caravan drive-through safari adventure where you encounter giraffes, zebras, rhinos and cheetahs roaming freely right before your eyes. Safari West is a fantastic choice for families. Kids will love the opportunity to see these magnificent animals up close, while parents can appreciate the park's dedication to conservation and education. My own seven-year-old daughter loved seeing giraffes up close and personal.
The Culinary Institute at Copia
For the foodies in your family, consider a morning spent at The Culinary Institute at Copia in Napa. This renowned institution offers "Kitchen Adventures" cooking and baking classes specifically designed for kids ages four and up. It's a fantastic opportunity for your little ones to get hands-on in the kitchen, learn new skills and create delicious treats.
Sterling Vineyards Wine Tasting & Gondola Ride
Sterling offers a unique experience that caters to both adults and children. Upon arrival, your little ones will receive a special backpack filled with fun activities and snacks to keep them entertained. While the adults enjoy a sophisticated wine walking tasting and a tour of the winery's impressive architecture, the kids can explore with parents on the tour.
Napa County Historical Society
This organization works to preserve Napa County's history. They offer exhibits onsite and walking tours. Check their activities and hours.
Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa
View the largest collection of original Peanuts artwork in the world at the Charles M. Schulz Museum. Located in Santa Rosa, California, just 30 minutes from Calistoga, the museum is dedicated to giving depth to the funny pages through the preservation, display and interpretation of the life and art of Peanuts comic strip creator, Charles M. Schulz.
Old Faithful Geyser in Calistoga
No, this isn’t the “Old Faithful” you’re thinking of, but California has its very own natural geyser that goes by the same name. The Old Faithful Geyser of California is exciting for kids young and old, and while on the park grounds your family can explore gardens, see farm animals, have a picnic, visit the geology museum or even play a game or two of bocce ball.
Playground Fantastico
Forget the vineyards — Playground Fantastico is pure, unadulterated fun for kids of all ages! This massive park boasts multiple climbing structures, offering exciting challenges for both toddlers and older children. With expansive sand covering most of the play area, sandcastle architects will be in their element. Don't forget to pack those sand toys (and maybe a change of clothes — dumping sand happens!).
