Things to do in Valencia

A must-visit, City of Arts and Sciences is a futuristic architectural museum in Valencia, Spain.

Stroll through the City of Arts and Sciences — an incredible modern architectural complex featuring cultural and scientific venues, including a science museum, an opera house, an aquarium and more. Its futuristic design, expansive landscaped gardens and reflective pools create an impressive and serene environment. It is worth the visit, even if just for a leisurely stroll!

Fly a Kite at Malvarrosa Beach — a popular beach with golden sand and clear waters, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the Mediterranean sun! Every April or May, catch the annual Festival Internacional del Viento (Wind Festival) where there are hundreds of kites of all shapes and sizes soaring above the Mediterranean.

Take Surf Lessons — Valencia is a great place to learn how to surf, thanks to its gorgeous beaches and favorable weather conditions! I was lucky enough to be visiting my Spaniard friend who taught me, but I would recommend taking a lesson at Malvarrosa or Patacona Beach.

Explore Valencia’s main square filled with striking Gothic architecture and historical significance. The Valencia Cathedral, Silk Exchange and City Hall are just a few remarkable buildings. Several locations also provide glimpses into Valencia's role in the Spanish Civil War and the impact on the city and culture.

Go shopping on Calle Colón and make sure to shop at Zara, Pull & Bear and MANGO for more favorable prices than what’s seen in the US (considering they are Spanish brands)! Ruzafa District is a can’t-miss area known for its trendy boutiques, vintage shops and eclectic cafes.

Go dancing! Valencia's vibrant nightlife offers something for everyone: La3 is a favorite for electronic music lovers. Akuarela Playa features Latin and commercial hits at its beachfront location. Nylon Club is known for indie, pop, and rock music, and Deseo 54 is a premier LGBTQ+ nightclub with a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Places to eat & drink in Valencia

Two kinds of Paella - traditional and squid ink

Valencia is the birthplace of paella. Don't miss the chance to try this iconic Spanish dish in its authentic form. Order the traditional and the squid ink paella dishes from Casa Carmela!

Tapas! From traditional options like jamón ibérico and patatas bravas to innovative seafood and vegetarian creations, Valencia's tapas offerings reflect its rich gastronomic heritage. Casa Montaña is celebrated for its extensive selection of wines and delicious tapas, and they’re a local favorite.

Order Horchata with Churros from a street market or local vendor. It’s a local specialty and a refreshing drink made from tiger nuts paired with a delicious crispy doughy treat.

*Pro Tip! Many restaurants in Valencia observe Spanish dining customs, such as eating dinner later in the evening (often after 9 pm). Tapas and local specialties like paella are best enjoyed in local eateries.

Need to know

Valencia is a great destination for friends, couples or solo travelers. Whether you're drawn to artistic treasures, lively atmosphere or culinary delights, Valencia promises a memorable adventure filled with warmth, charm and the essence of authentic Spanish hospitality!
