Curator’s statement
Nearly a year after our destination wedding, my husband and I set off for a 10-day honeymoon in Greece. We had visited briefly during college and never stopped talking about the incredible food, stunning waters and unforgettable sunsets. Seven years later, we finally returned, this time with a focus on history, hiking and relaxation — and it was everything we hoped for! No matter your travel style, Greece is sure to captivate you.

Things to do in Greece
1. Discover lesser-known islands
While Santorini and Mykonos are iconic, think about the type of trip you want. Looking for a more laid-back nightlife? Try Paros. Traveling with kids? Naxos is perfect for families.
2. Don’t skip Athens
Many travelers see Athens as just a stopover for island hopping, but it’s worth an extra night or two. With incredible food, rich history and vibrant shopping, the city has so much to offer.
3. Visit historical sites early
Start your tours early to beat the heat and enjoy these awe-inspiring sights before the crowds arrive. It’s a peaceful way to experience the grandeur of Greece’s history.
4. Know yourself
If you tend to get seasick, consider your options. A three to four-hour ferry ride might feel daunting, but there are faster ferry options, flights or even private island transfers to make your journey more comfortable.
5. Get local recommendations
Don’t be shy to ask the locals for their favorite spots. In Greece, people are more than happy to share hidden gems and local favorites!
6. Explore at your own pace
Renting a car on the islands gives you the freedom to wander and discover without the stress of transportation schedules. Most islands offer easy access to free parking, making it a breeze to explore various villages and scenic spots.
7. Try a Paloma
Trust me — Palomas in Greece are exceptional. Whether it’s the local ingredients or the island vibe, they’re far better than any you’ve had back home!
8. Pack light
Stick to a carry-on if possible. You’ll be grateful when navigating cobblestone streets or hoisting your bag onto a moving ferry. Your back (and sanity) will thank you!
9. Peek behind open doors
You’ll often stumble upon charming, hidden churches on the islands — many open to visitors. These little gems are often the highlight of a days wandering.
10. Learn a few key phrases
Locals love it when you make an effort with simple phrases like “Yia sas” (hello), “Kalimera” (good morning) or “Efharisto” (thank you). It shows appreciation for their culture and adds to your experience!
Places to eat & drink in Greece
Athens
Scholarhio – A perfect first stop after your flight, located near the Plaka neighborhood, offering all the classic Greek dishes you’ve been craving.
Pandora – Grab a delicious spinach pie on-the-go, ideal for a quick bite before or after your Acropolis tour.
Lolo’s – Greek salads are amazing everywhere, but this one stands out for something truly special.
Naxos
Mare Mare – The shrimp orzo and the Greek yogurt dessert with carrots were memorable dishes of the trip.
Berdema – For a Greek yogurt bowl loaded with fresh fruit, this is the place to go.
Lefto’s Souvlaki – The best gyro we had on the entire trip — and we tried quite a few!
Paros
Yemini – Our favorite moussaka of the trip, and again, we sampled plenty.
Sante – A fantastic cocktail bar with standout drinks, especially the lemon pie cocktail.
To Paradosiako – Loukoumades (little donut balls) are everywhere, but this is the only spot where we saw a line for them — well worth it!
