Curator’s statement
Croatia is the land of 1000 islands. Over 1100, actually. Being from California, I love a good coastline. Until I arrived in Croatia for the first time, I had no idea how pristine the water was, and there is a beautiful view in any direction you look. Dubrovnik is a great area to explore, but also a great spot to stay for other day trips.

Things to do in Croatia
It's nearly impossible to avoid a boat when staying around Dubrovnik, but then again, why would you want to? You can rent a boat, charter a private boat, or just take some boat ferry transfers to islands or other areas nearby.
Old Town Dubrovnik is a must-see. It's a clean old walled city and walking up on the perimeter will boast stunning sea views. However, everyone knows about it, so expect this area to be busy.
You already have your passport, so take a day trip into a boarding country. Go with a guide who is a region expert and turn your vacation into an enriching learning experience!
Don't miss Cavtat! This romantic town is actually older than Old Town and is less busy. In my opinion, Cavtat has a better restaurant area. Great for couples, friends, or solo travelers alike!
Places to eat & drink in Croatia
Nautika is well-known and the fanciest in Dubrovnik. It's located just outside of the Old Town walls, right on the sea. Book in advance and make sure to get a good seat for an unobstructed sea view. Order an old fashioned and watch the magic the server will make at the table.
Proto Fish Restaurant in Old Town was probably the best lunch I had. Yes, it's located within the Old Town walls, but off the main street. Service is great and the food is fresh and tasty.
Feeling adventurous? Go to BOWA for lunch. You have to take a boat to get to the island, either on your own, or requesting their transfer. Rent a cabana and spend some extra time in or near the water. This is not just a restaurant, but also a classy beach club.
For drinks with the most spectacular view, visit Buza Bar. Just outside the Old Town walls and practically on top of the sea, this is a place to enjoy your surroundings.
Restaurant Bugenvila is in Cavtat, about 15 minutes south of Dubrovnik. You'll find this restaurant in the Michelin guide; the food is excellent and the ambiance will make for a perfect date night.
