Curator’s statement

An excursion to the Morocco Atlas Mountains was truly bucket list moment that I've dreamed about. The magical blend of experiencing a mountain top village, homemade food, a local family, and a spiritual Call to Prayer was something that is hard to capture in words. The Morocco Atlas Mountains are the ultimate add-on to any Marrakesh adventure as it adds an authentic quality that feels un-touched by tourism.

Things to do in Marrakech

The Atlas Mountains are the Day Trips to end all Day Trips.

Make the trek

After a two-hour drive, you'll be dropped off at the base of a Berber village where you'll begin your hour long hike upward (donkeys will join your journey should you need a lift).

Meet your host family and get in traditional garb

This is why you came! Upon meeting your host family, and watching the Berber matriarch made wood fired bread for lunch, you'll get into traditional garb, if you wish. This adds a dose of festive fever that you'll never forget.

Enjoy a traditional tea ceremony

The Berbers know how to throw a tea party. Here, you'll watch the sequence of events, while enjoying nuts, dates, ghee, and freshly-baked wood fired bread. If you're lucky, you'll even learn some traditional dances.

Lunch at a mountain top restaurant

A few steps away you'll find yourself at a family-run rooftop restaurant for home cooking like you've never experienced. Tagine, couscous (passed down from Jewish traditions), vegetables and bread will be shared - hopefully right before you'll catch the Call to Prayer.

Journey Back Down:

Reflect on the glory that is-your-life as you walk back down the mountain. These are memories that you'll hold forever.
