Madrid, the capital city of popular the European country Spain, is its cultural hub. From art museums to the royal family's palace, there is something for everyone. Although you could easily spend an extending amount of time here exploring different restaurants and activities, I have created this two-day itinerary that allows you to tick off all the main attractions in a efficient way!

Day 1: Welcome to Madrid!
Start your day in the center of the city at Puerta del Sol. You will see various monuments here, including El Oso y el Madroño, a bear statue which is the official crest of Madrid. After you’ve perused the square, head to Churreria to get some traditional Spanish, chocolate churros for breakfast. This is particularly popular in the capital, so you will be surrounded by locals and will get the full Madrileno experience. After you’ve finished here, a short walk away is Plaza Mayor, Madrid’s main square. If you’re visiting during a particular season, there is often events taking place based upon different holidays, so be sure to make the most of that.
Later on, head to Gran Via and grab a coffee at Syra Coffee. This modern café has various different options as well as some great pastries. Get it to take away and walk over to Palacio Real de Madrid, home of the Spanish royal family. This grandiose palace’s architecture and gardens are beautiful, so spend some time exploring. Nearby is Templo de Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple that was dismantled and rebuilt in Madrid. The artifact itself is magnificent, but the location also provides scenic views of the city.
In the evening, head to Bel Mondo for dinner. This bright and colorful Italian restaurant serves classic dishes and a great atmosphere. An Instagram hotspot, don’t miss out on getting a good picture!
Day 2: Sightseeing & Local Eats
Begin the day in the Salamanca district and grab some coffee and breakfast at Mood Coffee Bar, which serves delicious granola and flavored coffees. Nearby is Parque el Retiro, so stroll through and take in the surroundings. Be sure to see the Alfonso XII Monument standing tall over the grand pond in the middle of the park. Walk further down and you will arrive at Palacio de Cristal, a stunning architectural entity that also is host to art exhibitions.
A short walk from the greenery is Museo Nacional del Prado, one of the most popular museums in Madrid. It showcases various European art, including works by famous Spanish artists Francisco Goya, El Greco and Diego Veláquez. It is a large venue, so make sure to set aside a good few hours to explore all that is in offer.
For dinner, make a reservation at Bodega de los Secretos, a Mediterranean restaurant built in an underground cellar. Its cozy vibes are the perfect way to finish the day and draw a close to your short trip to the Spanish capital.
