Barbados is the ultimate Caribbean destination for a true getaway. It was the first solo trip I took, and it did not disappoint. Every part of the island is like a deep exhale, pure bliss and relaxation are achieved on every white sand beach. With super friendly locals, delicious eats and one-of-a-kind adventures, Barbados checks every box when it comes to an unbeatable Caribbean vacay.

Things to do in Barbados
For the adventurer, Harrisons Cave Eco-Adventure Park. The site has tons to offer travelers looking for an adrenaline high. From ziplines, ropes and challenge courses to tram tours of the caves and Mount Gay rum tastings, the park offers something for everyone. The cave guides are excellent, and the property is stunning.
Looking for natural beauty? Look no further than one of the most breath-taking gardens I've ever experienced, Hunte's Garden. Owned by Anthony Hunte, is a stunning collection of plants curated into a gorgeous property that truly feels like getting lost in a fairy tale. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to sit and listen to while you allow yourself to be absorbed into the bliss of nature. If you're lucky, you can visit the house and meet Mr. Hunte himself or purchase local goods and continue to admire the gardens below.
You cannot leave Barbados without trying a catamaran snorkeling cruise to see the turtles. There are tons of providers who have really great and interactive guides who know all about the islands and the oceans around them. Swimming above reefs, shipwrecks, turtles and stingrays was the most peaceful and cathartic experience I had during this trip.
On Friday nights, there is only one place to be, Oistins Fish Market for the weekly fish fry. There is no rival for mingling with locals and tourists alike while enjoying some fresh fish and other Bajan favorites. Go for the food, but stay for the vibes. There are incredible eats but also music and local vendors, making it a great place for picking up a few souvenirs.
Bathsheba Beach, home to the iconic rock formations, is a can't miss photo opportunity. While Bathsheba Beach is not the best beach for a swim due to the strong currents, the scenery is unmatched. Views of the towering island landscape to the back and gorgeous ocean breezes in front remind you of the beauty of being on the island.
Places to eat & drink in Barbados
You didn’t visit Barbados if you didn’t pick up a fish cutter sandwich from Cuzz’s Fish Stand. Cuzz’s is a family business passed down and has been in business for years making the most incredible fish cutter sandwiches you’ll ever experience. Make sure to order the sandwich with cheese because that's what makes it sing and make sure to order two.
Ostins Fish Market has some of the best fish plates I have ever tasted. There are endless stalls to choose from. My recommendation is going deep into the market and picking one. The lines are shorter, and the experience is still incredible.
When I visited Barbados, my goal was to relax and enjoy. I stayed at the fabulous Hilton Barbados Resort, which had several restaurants on property. Some of my favorites were the Lighthouse Terrace, with their decadent Italian dishes and open-air views of the ocean. The Water’s Edge Beach Bar for their fusion light bites. And the Careenage Rum Stop for their authentic Bajan taste and cocktails.
If the eccentric Bajan tour guide was right, there are just as many bars on the island as there are churches. If you’re looking for a good drink on the island, there are plenty of options and rum is always the way to go.
