Day 1: Welcome to Tybee!

Two wine glasses being toasted on a beach at dusk.

Once you’re settled in your cozy bed & breakfast or charming inn, head down to the beach. Take a leisurely stroll, collect seashells or dip your toes in the refreshing Atlantic waters. If you arrive in the evening, be sure to take your drink along to enjoy the breathtaking sunset.

For dinner, visit the original Crab Shack. Sit outside under the twinkling string lights and take in the serene marshland views. The Captain’s Sampler Platter, with its fresh, locally-sourced seafood, is perfect for sharing. Relax with the locals (including the friendly feral cats that roam the property) and try one of the local brews — Creature Comforts is a favorite. Don’t forget to visit the gator lagoon before you leave.

Before retiring to bed, check out Nicki’s 1971 Bar & Grill. There’s always something fun happening here, from live music to karaoke, and you might even encounter some Jell-O shots.

Pro tip: Consider renting a golf cart. Tybee is about five miles in diameter, and while it’s easy to get around by walking or biking, you’ll notice the locals prefer golf carts.

Day 2: History and locals

Sunset behind the boats at a boat dock on the water with foliage in the distance.

Start your day at Mi Vida, an eclectic coffee shop and boutique showcasing the island’s local community and art. Enjoy fresh-pressed juices, coffee and a sustainable breakfast. The menu changes frequently, but the burrata toast with a side of fresh fruit and a cappuccino is a must-try.

Next, head to Fort Pulaski National Monument on Cockspur Island. Spend the day exploring the impressive brick fortress, significant during the Civil War. Wander through underground tunnels, admire the rooftop cannons and enjoy the picturesque moat. Afterward, take in the beautiful marshland and coastal scenery with a picnic. Hike the North Pier Trail, perfect for observing wildlife and getting a private view of the quaint Cockspur Lighthouse.

Back in town, grab seafood tacos at Chamacos Tacos and Surf. This colorful little restaurant often has live music, making it a perfect spot to relax. For more adventure, head to North Beach to enjoy the lighthouse view or relax on the wide, sandy beach.

For dinner, visit Bubba Gumbo’s, a waterfront joint located on the shrimp docks of Tybee Island Marina. This charming seafood shack will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The shrimp and grits come highly recommended. After dinner, socialize with locals or explore the marina and enjoy the sunset over the marsh.

End your evening at Huc-A-Poos, a beloved local hangout known for its quirky decor, live entertainment and delicious pizza.

Pro tip: Bring a dollar to Huc-A-Poos to mark your visit to Tybee Island.

Day 3: Boutiques, beaches and gourmet hot dogs

A view of nature with water in the distance and a circular board with directions on ground.

Enjoy breakfast or brunch at a local diner like Sunrise Savannah or The Breakfast Club.

Before heading to the beach one final time, visit Seaside Sisters to browse antiques, handmade and local items. Just a block over, explore several boutiques housed in pastel-colored cottages near Huc-A-Poos. Grab a to-go pizza from Huc-A-Poos to enjoy on the beach.

For your last dinner, dine at Sea Wolf Tybee, a stylish restaurant known for its oysters and gourmet hot dogs. The drink menu is just as impressive as the food. Be sure to try one of their inventive cocktails while you take in the chic, modern decor.

Pro tip: There’s always a story behind the decor at Sea Wolf. During my visit, the staff was on a Baywatch binge, with oysters dressed in classic red bathing suits — so fun it made it onto a t-shirt!
