Things to do in Nice
Explore Old Nice
Begin your journey by immersing yourself in the charm of Old Nice. Wander through the Cours Saleya street market, where you can experience the vibrant atmosphere and pick up local delicacies. Don’t forget to indulge in some gelato as you stroll through the picturesque narrow streets lined with colorful buildings. Be sure to visit the stunning Cathédrale Sainte-Réparate de Nice, a historic gem nestled in the heart of the old town.
Stroll Through Place Massena
A visit to Nice wouldn’t be complete without a leisurely stroll through Place Massena. This central square is a hub of activity and a must-see for its impressive architecture and lively ambiance. Take a moment to admire the famous Fontaine du Soleil, a striking centerpiece that adds to the square's allure.
Relax at a Beach Club
For a more laid-back experience, head to one of Nice’s many beach clubs. We spent our time at Plage Beau Rivage, but there are plenty of other options to choose from. While public beaches are available, the beach clubs offer added comfort with lounge chairs and drink service. Arrive early, as these spots fill up quickly. Keep in mind that Nice beaches are rocky, so consider wearing waterproof shoes for added comfort.
Take a Cruise to Villefranche Bay
A cruise to Villefranche Bay is a must-do for breathtaking views of the coastline. We took a cruise departing from the Port of Nice, and it was both affordable and a fantastic way to see the stunning scenery from the water. The peaceful journey offers a unique perspective of the French Riviera, making it a memorable part of any trip to Nice.
Ascend Castle Hill (Colline du Château)
For panoramic views of Nice and the stunning coastline, make your way to Castle Hill, also known as Colline du Château. You can either hike up or take the elevator to the top. The effort is well worth it as the vantage point provides some of the most breathtaking sights in the city. It's an excellent way to cap off your exploration of Nice, offering a perspective that truly captures the beauty of the area.
Visit a Nearby Winery
For a memorable day trip, consider visiting a nearby winery, such as Château de Crémat. We had a fantastic experience that included a wine tasting, a tour of the picturesque vineyard and an exploration of the Château's elegant interior. The design of the Château, partially inspired by Coco Chanel, even features some of her original furniture. The winery is conveniently located about 20 minutes from Nice, easily accessible via Uber and offers a delightful escape into the world of French wine and luxury.
Musée Matisse & Marc Chagall National Museum
If you're into art, these two museums are worth checking out! The Musée Matisse houses an extensive collection of Henri Matisse’s work, located in a gorgeous 17th-century villa. Just a short distance away, the Marc Chagall National Museum features vibrant paintings, stained glass and mosaics by Chagall.
