Curator’s statement

I've been to San Miguel de Allende once but already have a trip booked to return! It is a very safe town with a large expat population and is one of Mexico’s safest cities! It truly doesn't even feel like Mexico but feels more like Spain with lots of beautiful architecture, lots of culture, and is very walkable. February is a great time of the year to visit with no rain and warm sunny days, but chillier nights.

Need to know

Getting there:

San Miguel is fairly easy to get to from Dallas, since there are non-stop flights (a little over two hrs long) from DFW to QRO. QRO is the closest airport, about an hour drive to get to San Miguel. You can also fly into BJX (1.5 hr drive) or Mexico City (4-hr drive). Many hotels offer shuttle services from QRO or you can reserve a taxi or private driver in advance. Once you arrive in San Miguel, pretty much everything is walkable! There are taxis around town if you need them or if you’re staying further out of town, but you will want to spend as much time as possible walking the beautiful cobblestone streets (bring comfy shoes)! A long weekend is a perfect amount of time to visit this city.

Tips:

Bring walking shoes!! If you are planning to wear heels, it is necessary to bring a pair of flats or sneakers to change into while walking the cobblestone streets. Pack a sweater or jacket as it gets cooler in the evenings.
