Curator’s statement

When booking your first trip to Greece, it can be overwhelming to decide which of the incredible islands you should visit. While there are so many wonderful destinations within breathtaking country, I recommend spending your first trip to Greece island hopping through the Cyclades. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or an adventure-packed trip, the Cyclades Islands in Greece have something for every type of traveler. In this guide, you will see recommendations for my three favorite Cyclades Islands: Naxos, Milos and Santorini.

Things to do in Greece

Naxos:

Beaches: Naxos is known for having some of the best sandy beaches in Greece. Whether you’re looking for a beach club style spot (at Plaka Beach) or a more relaxed spot to soak up the sun (one of my personal favorites is Hawai'i Beach), checking out the naxos beaches is a must!

Temple of Detemer: While in Naxos, I highly recommend visiting the Temple of Demeter, an ancient Greek temple dedicated to the goddess of agriculture. The temple's ruins are well-preserved and surrounded by beautiful olive trees.

Naxos Town (Chora): Take a stroll through the charming Old Town’s narrow streets that are home to wonderful cafes, shops and restaurants. If you’re able to come in the evening, head over to watch the sunset at the Portara. It's a massive marble gate that is the only remaining part of an ancient temple dedicated to Apollo.

Milos:

Sarakiniko Beach: Sarakiniko is one of the most iconic beaches in Milos, and for good reason. The white volcanic rock formations against the turquoise waters create such a unique landscape that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.

Kleftiko: A group of sea caves and rock formations accessible only by boat.

Santorini:

Oia: Renowned for its sunning sunsets and white buildings, Oia is one of the most commonly visited villages in Santoini.

Ammoudi Bay: Descend the steps from Oia to Amoudi Bay, a small fishing village with many delicious seafood restaurants and crystal-clear waters for swimming.

Pygros: While a lesser-known area of the island, Pygros was one of my favorite places! Pygros is known for its unique character and historical significance - a charming village in the interior of the island with incredible sunset views.

Places to eat & drink in Greece

Light blue tables and chairs around a street.

Naxos:

Yazoo Summer Bliss: A great beach club on Plaka Beach with delicious food and cocktails.

Apostolis: Great traditional Greek cuisine within the old town of Naxos (Chora).

Milos:

Medusa: Stop by this quaint fishing village to dine at this incredible spot! I recommend visiting for lunch so you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

Enalion: Delicious greek cuisine at this wonderful restaurant. After your meal, walk around the quaint village of Pollonia.

Santorini:

Ammoudi Fish Tavern: Delicious seafood restaurants with incredible views of Ammoudi Bay.

Skala: Located in the heart of Oia, this is another wonderful Greek restaurant. If you can, try to grab a seat on the terrace for beautiful caldera views!
