Curator’s statement

Chicago is a great city any time of year, but summer in Chicago is truly something special. Some of the best summer fun in Chicago can be found north of the city center in the Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods where shops, cafes, iconic outdoors spaces and festive vibes are the name of the game. With easy access to Wrigley Field, Boystown, DePaul University and the Lincoln Park Zoo, the north side has something for everyone. And if you want to head to downtown Chicago, you can hop on train and be there in no time!

Wrigley Field - Home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team, this historic stadium is a Chicago landmark. Going to a Cubs game is a classic summer in Chicago experience. Tours are available on non-game days. Wrigley Field is also a fantastic concert venue for big acts.

Lincoln Park Zoo - Family fun or a cute couples outing. With free admission there's simply no reason not to go check out the animals.

Lincoln Park Conservatory and Gardens - This lovely complex is located next to the zoo and highly recommended for any time of year. The Fern Room is especially magical.

North Avenue Beach - Enjoy summer in Chicago by relaxing in the sand on the shore of Lake Michigan and take a dip when it's time to cool off. The on-site Beach Hose has changing rooms, restrooms, and there are a variety places to purchase food and drink.

Chicago Lakefront Trail - Walk, run, bike, or rollerblade a section of this 18-mile trail along Lake Michigan. There are numerous access points from both the Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods.

Northalstead - Formerly known as Boystown, Northalstead is a historic LGBTQ+ neighborhood that hosts Chicago Pride Fest every June. Check out the Legacy Walk, an outdoor museum that celebrates unsung heroes in LGBTQ+ history.

Chicago History Museum - The Great Chicago Fire, the Chicago World's Fair, and the city's jazz and blues scene are just a few of the subjects covered in this comprehensive museum dedicated to the rich history of Chicago. Good for a rainy day or when a little AC is in order.
