Things to do in Beijing, China
Before you go
Visas and Documentation: Ensure you have a valid passport and obtain a Chinese visa well in advance. Tourist visas typically allow a stay of up to 30 days.
Health Precautions: Check with your health provider for recommended vaccines and health advice. Pollution in Beijing can be severe, so consider packing masks if you are sensitive to air quality.
Local Laws and Customs: Familiarize yourself with local laws and cultural norms. Public behavior in China is generally conservative, and laws around internet use are strict, with many Western social media platforms blocked.
What to see and where to go
Wangfujing is a must for customized clothes. Within twenty hours, they will create a garment for you. I had business shirts for as little as $10 each.
Shop at Wangfujing Street: Enjoy bustling shopping with a mix of modern malls, traditional shops, and a famous snack street offering local delicacies. Visit Website
Explore the Forbidden City: Discover the ancient imperial palaces of the Ming and Qing dynasties in the heart of Beijing.
Walk the Great Wall at Mutianyu: Enjoy breathtaking views and a less crowded experience on this beautifully preserved section of the Great Wall.
Visit the Summer Palace: Roam the vast gardens, lakes, and palaces of this Qing Dynasty summer retreat.
Stroll through the Temple of Heaven: Admire the architectural splendor and serene park setting where emperors once performed rites for bountiful harvests.
Places to eat & drink in Beijing, China
I don't put Beijing on the top of my foodie locations. With that said, the East Shore Live Jazz Cafe was enjoyable.
East Shore Live Jazz Cafe: Chill at this relaxed jazz club offering live music with a view of Houhai Lake, perfect for an evening unwind.
Da Dong Roast Duck Restaurant: Renowned for its crispy and less fatty Peking duck, this restaurant offers a modern take on a traditional dish.
Black Sesame Kitchen: Enjoy private dining and cooking classes focusing on Chinese cuisine in an intimate hutong setting.
Din Tai Fung: This Taiwanese chain delivers consistent quality because it is famous for its delicate and flavorful xiaolongbao (soup dumplings).
