Curator’s statement

As a University of Miami graduate, Miami has been a special place for me for over 15 years. Now that I live in NYC and return for a yearly vacation, it’s been interesting to see the city turn into a “mini NYC”. These are some of my favorite restaurants and experiences that are unique to Miami that I keep coming back to.

Things to do in Miami

A crowd cheers as music blasts and colored paint splashes out into the crowd.
  • Relax at the beach or the ppool- this one is a no-brainer, and probably the reason you’re coming to Miami. While South Beach is the most famous beach, Key Biscayne is another quieter, more local option.

  • Nikki Beach - a classic South Beach day club if you’re looking for more of a party vibe.

  • See a drag show at Palace - touristy for a reason, but a great time!

  • See the Wynwood Walls- see the murals throughout the art district. If you’re there on the second Saturday of the month, you’ll get the extra-special experience of Art Walk, where the local galleries open, and food trucks and other vendors join for the ultimate block party.

Coral Gables

  • Luca Osteria - a cute Italian restaurant near Miracle Mile. The truffled potatoes with parmesan and egg yolks are a must!

  • Monty’s a fun seaside restaurant with a raw bar and live music.

Miami Beach

  • Macchialina - a rustic Italian restaurant in South Beach with a great pasta and Veal milanese

  • Matador Room - upscale Latin-inspired restaurant from Jean-Georges Vongerichten in the EDITION hotel for a fancy night out

  • Strawberry Moon - Mediterranean food in the “Instagrammable” Good Time hotel. Great for brunch or a pre-dinner nosh.

  • Stubborn Seed - A Michelin-starred restaurant focused on local ingredients from Top Chef winner Jeremy Ford

Design District/Wynwood

  • Uchi - while this Japanese restaurant has a few locations throughout the US, the Miami location is not to be missed if you don’t have a local outpost for unique and high-quality sushi.

  • Lagniappe - if you love Bacchanal in New Orleans, this is essentially Miami’s version of it. Grab a bottle of wine, listen to live music, and make your own cheese plate at this cute outdoor spot.

  • Mandolin - get transported to Greece with one of the best outdoor patios in Miami. All of the food is incredible, but don’t sleep on the pillowy manti dumplings!
