Curator’s statement

I can’t stress enough how otherworldly Utah really is. It is one of the most varied places in the US. From Zion National Park with its gorgeous walls of stunning rock, to Bryce National Park’s hoodoos, it’s unbelievably jaw-dropping. The sites are so varied, even a few hours apart, it feels as if you’ve stepped into another planet. It’s a trip that is not easily forgotten.

Things to do in Utah

Rocky hills as seen from above.

Hiking

There is no shortage of beautiful places to hike in The Mighty Five, as the Utah National Parks are known. There are hikes for all levels and amounts of time available to spend in each park.

Wandering

This is the ideal place for those who love to wander! Driving from park to park allows for more stops than one could possibly even take in. Little country stores and breathtaking photo ops are easily found on your journey. Crowds haven’t quite picked up in May, so the lines are typically shorter at the parks!

Historical and Cultural Sites

There are numerous opportunities to visit National historical monuments, museums, and learn about Native American history. Check out this site for more info on visiting Native American sites.

RV Adventures

Utah is a perfect place to take a family RV vacation! It’s an ideal RV trip because you can go from park to park without unpacking. This is an ideal end-of-year trip for homeschool families. You can get those school days in and enjoy the end of the year on an unforgettable educational adventure together! I have a favorite RV company that is top-notch for this adventure and would be happy to help you set this up.

Photography

Mid-to-late May is just the time when the snow is clearing away and making way for beautiful spring flowers, not to mention the land formations all around. We had a blast just looking for the desert flowers in bloom!

Places to eat & drink in Utah

A fat meat burger.

Need a refreshing drink stop for the entire family? Check out Swig. This is the place for cool drinks your whole family will enjoy! Hungry for more? What trip out West is complete without a stop at In-And-Out Burger? And if your travels take you right across the border to Monument Valley, look for The Blue Coffee Pot (Kayenta, AZ). There's no website, but they have Navajo tacos you must experience right on the Navajo Reservation. It checks all my boxes for a tasty meal and a cultural experience!

Need to know

Insider Tip: If you have a Fourth Grader your entire family can get into the National Parks for free! Check out this website for details and be sure to register in advance: https://everykidoutdoors.gov/index.htm
