GETTING THERE

Edmonds is an easy 15-to-20-minute drive north of Seattle. Plenty of street parking is available within a short walk of points of interest. Sometimes I have trouble finding a spot on the weekends, but it’s generally doable.

It is possible to reach Edmonds by bus, but since most routes take well over an hour, I highly recommend renting your own vehicle.

ACTIVITIES

Stroll Main St. and 5th Avenue: The majority of stores and restaurants are located on these two major streets. They radiate out from a central roundabout which links these two streets. Be aware that many stores close by 5pm or 6pm, so plan your trip accordingly. I enjoy wandering the clothing boutiques and quirky stationery stores.

Rick Steves Travel Store: If you’re an avid traveler, you will love visiting the headquarters of Rick Steves, located on 4th Avenue. Meet the knowledgeable staff and browse the extensive library of travel books. The company also sells a complete line of luggage and travel gadgets. A great place to satisfy your wanderlust and plan ahead for future trips! At the time of this writing, the store is only open on Saturdays, so keep that in mind when you plan.

Edmonds Waterfront: Leave your car at the end of Main Street, and take a walk through the park just to the north. Another great waterfront stroll starts south of Main, at the dog park. While this area is designated for dogs and owners, you will also find some playground equipment – a great activity for kids. Further, you can use one of the many picnic benches to enjoy a nice snack or meal while looking out at the water.

Edmonds Underwater Park: This unique attraction offers a one-of-a-kind experience for divers. You can experience a diverse ecosystem, which includes kelp forests, colorful fish, and sea anemones. This attraction is organized so that divers and snorkelers can navigate marked underwater trails. Viewing wildlife as well as artificial structures such as sunken cars and ships.

Edmonds Center for the Arts/Driftwood: Players Are you into performing arts? Catch a community theater show performed by local actors at Driftwood Players. You can find international acts at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

Take a Ferry: Washington state has one of the world’s most extensive ferry systems. Enjoy some time out on a boat in Puget Sound for the afternoon, venturing to the small town of Kingston. For a cheap thrill, you can walk on the ferry for less than $10 per person. When the weather is nice, stand on the outdoor deck for a 20-minute voyage each way. Do be aware that the ferry gets busy, especially on sunny days!

Thursday Art Walks: If you’re in the area on the third Thursday of the month, visit Edmonds between 5-8pm. Stores and art galleries are open later this day, showcasing local artists. This is a great opportunity to support local businesses and buy unique gifts!

Places to eat & drink in Edmonds, WA

Shopping-In-Edmonds-Seattle-travel-guide

Demetri’s Woodstone Taverna: Delicious grilled and pan-Mediterranean options. Their calamari is the best I've ever had. On a nice day, try to sit on the patio, which looks out to the sound!

The Loft: Enjoy a Northwest menu with Mediterranean flair. This restaurant has a year-round heated covered patio in the back.

Red Twig: A cozy café known for its espresso drinks and light fare. Try the hemp milk latte!

Anthony’s Homeport: For a fancier meal, head to the upper floor of Anthony’s, which offers unequaled views of the sound. Anthony’s is great for seafood lovers, with its daily fresh sheet.

Caravan Kebab: A bit off the beaten path, this wonderful restaurant is a short drive from downtown Edmonds. Their succulent curries and kebabs are worth the drive!
