Things to do in Oahu
Nuuanu Pali Lookout
This historic site played a pivotal role in Hawaiian history as the location of the Battle of Nuuanu, which ultimately led to the unification of the Hawaiian Islands under King Kamehameha I. As you soak in the panoramic views of lush valleys and dramatic cliffs, you can't help but feel the echoes of the past.
Ko Hana Rum Distillery
The highlight of our visit was the distillery tour and tastings where we had the chance to savor Hawaiian Agricole Rum and even enjoy fresh sugarcane juice. It was a sensory journey through the flavors of the island, and trust me, the sugarcane juice was so delicious!
Mermaid Cave at Nanakuli Beach Park
This spot is a well-kept secret among the locals, far from popular tourist destinations. We trekked across the lava rocks and descended into the sea caves. If you enjoy even more of a rush, cliff jumping is another popular activity at this beach. The sense of seclusion and the thrill of discovery made this experience truly unforgettable.
Day Trips:
Aloha, fellow adventurers! If you're a Disney lover with a hint of Tiki enthusiasm in your veins, I have a perfect day trip in Oahu for you. My husband and I recently explored this beautiful island and combined our love for Disney and Tiki to create an unforgettable day of exploration. Our base was the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, and with a trusty jeep from Enterprise, we embarked on a magical journey. Here's a glimpse of our day and the memories we made.
1. Nuuanu Pali Lookout: Where History Meets Breathtaking Beauty
Our journey begins with a scenic drive up to the Nuuanu Pali Lookout. Be prepared for some blustery winds, but the breathtaking views are worth it!
2. Ko Hana Rum Distillery - A Taste of Hawaii
Next, we made our way to the Ko Hana Rum Distillery, a paradise for rum aficionados. The highlight of our visit was the distillery tour and tastings where we had the chance to savor Hawaiian Agricole Rum and even enjoy fresh sugarcane juice. It was a sensory journey through the flavors of the island, and trust me, the sugarcane juice was so delicious!
3. Disney's Aulani Resort: A Touch of Magic
For all you Disney fans, the next stop was a dream come true. We couldn't resist paying a visit to Disney's Aulani Resort. While day guests can't take a dip in the pool (a Disney lover's ultimate temptation!), you can make dining and spa reservations and enjoy the pristine beach area. The Disney magic is alive and well here, even on Oahu's shores. Next time we are in Oahu will definitely be to stay here a few nights!
4. Mermaid Cave at Nanakuli Beach Park: A Hidden Treasure
Our adventure-loving spirits led us to a hidden gem, the Mermaid Cave, nestled within Nanakuli Beach Park.
5. La Mariana Sailing Club: A Tiki Time Capsule
For my husband, who's a tiki history enthusiast, La Mariana Sailing Club was paradise. It's famous for housing tiki memorabilia from Don the Beachcomber's legendary tiki bars, along with artifacts from other iconic tiki spots. We enjoyed a drink, some delicious snacks, and immersed ourselves in the rich history of tiki culture.
6. Skull and Crown Trading Co.: The Ultimate Tiki Experience
To cap off this epic day, we headed back to Waikiki and made our way to Skull and Crown Trading Co., a tiki and craft cocktail bar in Downtown Honolulu. The ambiance was absolutely unique, and the drinks were simply out of this world. It's a must-visit for any tiki enthusiast or anyone looking for a memorable evening filled with exotic cocktails and tropical vibes.
Optional: Pearl Harbor - A Moment of Reflection
Though we only made a brief stop at Pearl Harbor, it's worth mentioning that you can choose to spend more time here, particularly if you have a keen interest in history. The site is conveniently located on the route and provides an opportunity for reflection on a pivotal moment in history.
Our day trip around Oahu was a delightful blend of history, culture, adventure, and, of course, a touch of Disney and Tiki magic. We hope our itinerary has inspired you to embark on your own enchanting journey through this beautiful island. Aloha, and may your adventures be as unforgettable as ours!
