Curator’s statement

Dubai is its own little bubble, where you feel like you never have to leave the city because there is so much to do and see. However, I strongly urge you to take a day journey from Dubai to explore the rich culture, impressive architecture and tranquil beauty of Abu Dhabi, an adventure not to be missed. As the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi presents a contrast to Dubai’s towering buildings with its own unique attractions, verdant surroundings and scenic waterfronts. Here’s how to get the most out of a day trip to Abu Dhabi.

Things to do

Morning: Leaving Dubai & Visiting Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Early Departure: Kick off your trip by leaving Dubai around 8 am to make the most of your day. The drive to Abu Dhabi is roughly 1.5 hours, traffic permitting. Visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque: Your first destination is this stunning mosque, a pinnacle of architectural beauty and one of the largest mosques globally. Its white marble facade, inlaid with gems and home to the world's largest loomed carpet, is truly a spectacle. Dress conservatively as a sign of respect.

Late Morning: Exploring Qasr Al Watan

Qasr Al Watan: Next, visit Qasr Al Watan within the presidential palace’s premises, which is open for public tours. This palace is a celebration of Arabian craftsmanship and offers insight into the UAE’s ruling processes. Confirm the visiting times before you go, as they can fluctuate.

Afternoon: Dining & The Corniche

Lunch at Emirates Palace: Experience dining in luxury at Emirates Palace, where lunch is more than a meal — it’s an immersion in luxury.

The Corniche Walk: After lunch, enjoy a stroll on the Corniche, admiring the waterfront promenade that boasts beautiful views of Abu Dhabi’s skyline and its lush beaches and parks.

Late Afternoon: The Louvre Abu Dhabi

Louvre Abu Dhabi: Don't miss the Louvre Abu Dhabi, renowned for its global art collections that connect Eastern and Western cultures. The design of its dome creates a stunning light effect, reminiscent of sunlight filtering through palm leaves in an oasis.

Evening: Heading Back to Dubai or Visit Yas Island

Option 1 - Back to Dubai: If you’re headed back, aim to leave by 6 pm for a smooth drive to Dubai.

Option 2 - Yas Island Adventure: If you’ve got time, Yas Island awaits. Whether it's checking out the Yas Marina Circuit, diving into fun at Yas Waterworld or dining out, the island is a perfect evening stop before heading back to Dubai.
