Day 1: Kick off your Maui honeymoon itinerary with a beverage, shopping & an unbeatable sunset
Welcome to paradise. If you're a planner like me, you'll have arranged a traditional Hawaiʻian lei greeting at Kahului airport upon arrival. Rideshares and taxis are plentiful, so you won't wait long to be whisked away to your accommodations.
Upon arriving at Andaz, they greet you with a cool, refreshing beverage and begin the check-in process. Once settled, take a quick tour of the resort to familiarize yourself and pick up your welcome amenity.
The Shops at Wailea are about a 10-minute stroll from the resort with stunning ocean views along the way. Restaurants, breweries and high-end shopping: you'll find it all. Now that it's time for happy hour, head to Monkeypod Kitchen to enjoy their famous Mai Tai topped with iliko‘i foam. Maybe even catch the first sunset of your honeymoon while you dine or on your way back!
Day 2: Canoe excursion & pool relaxation
Wake up and enjoy the fantastic breakfast buffet at Ka'ana Kitchen, one of Andaz's onsite restaurants. Don't worry about jet lag - breakfast is served from 6:30am-11am, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy offerings like mochi waffles, an omelet station, fresh juices and more.
After energizing for the day, head down to the beach area to check in for the Outrigger Canoe Excursion (booked ahead of time), one of the many activities included in the resort fee. You'll venture out into the ocean with a handful of other resort guests plus a friendly and entertaining guide. So much fun!
Next, fill your schedule with lots of pool time (a must for any Maui honeymoon itinerary). The infinity pools at Andaz are just stunning, with staff willing to bring you any food or drinks from the Bumbye Beach Bar menu. I highly recommend the lobster grilled cheese. Once you've had your fill of swimming and sunbathing (for today, anyway), take a short drive to Matteo's Osteria for some of the best cioppino you'll ever have. Their mocktails are very good, too.
Day 3: Kayaking and mixology
On ay three of your Maui honeymoon itinerary, wake up and enjoy a slow morning before heading down to the beach area to check in for the kayak tour (reserved ahead of time). For about an hour, your guide will take you along the shores of Wailea, stopping to watch sea turtles swimming in the area. The water is incredibly beautiful and clear enough to see several feet below the surface. Arrive back to the resort and enjoy a late breakfast buffet.
After that, it's time to check in for the mixology class. Classes are kept small to ensure everyone gets hands-on experience, but they are offered 2-3 times per week. It's here that you'll learn how to mix (and sample!) classic cocktails like daiquiris and even taste different tequilas. Feel free to revel in your new title of Master Mixologist by relaxing beachside, where the staff is always available to set up chairs and umbrellas. You can also rent snorkeling gear right on the beach. Late checkouts are fantastic, aren't they? Even though your stay at Andaz has come to an end, the beauty of the Hyatt Regency along Ka'anapali beach awaits.
Day 4: Snorkeling at Molokini and exploring Front Street (a must on any Maui honeymoon itinerary)
Wake up bright and early for a 7am departure to Molokini Island with Seafire Snorkeling. Molokini is a crater island just off Maui's coast and its crescent shape protects it from strong winds and currents. Surrounded by a coral reef with visibility of as deep as 150 feet, fish are plentiful enough to make you feel as though you're swimming in a beautiful aquarium.
After about four hours of snorkeling, you'll have worked up an appetite. Nalu's Cafe is located nearby in Kihei and offers delicious local cuisine. By now, it's time for a nap. Remember, this IS vacation!
Feeling refreshed, it's time to head to Lahaina's Front Street, an area bustling with shops and restaurants. Fleetwood's, owned by rock and roll icon Mick Fleetwood, is a popular spot with a lovely rooftop patio. Enjoy tasty happy hour offerings such as buttery lobster rolls, seasoned french fries and fresh salads for good measure. Catch the stunning sunset before heading back to the hotel.
Day 5: Honoapi'ilani & Kahekili highways, Nakalele Blowhole and Makawao
Today is a good day to have a rental car. Grab breakfast to go from the Gazebo (highly recommend the fried rice and macadamia nut, pineapple and coconut pancakes) and eat it beachside. Take scenic Honoapi'ilani highway and be prepared to stop along the way for stunning views. You can download the Gypsy app beforehand and it'll let you know when to pull over.
Upon arriving to Nakalele Point, you can take a hiking trail down to the blowhole, a popular natural geyser. Drive with caution as Kahekili highway turns into one lane with sharp turns that can make oncoming traffic difficult to see. For this reason, it's actually recommended to turn around and drive back to Ka'anapali rather than continuing on.
Makawao, a town in Upcountry Maui, is about an hour and a half away. Here you'll get the small-town feel with shops and restaurants, albeit fewer tourists. Visit the famous Maui Cookie Lady for delicious stuffed cookies. Newly opened, Mahalo Aleworks is sure to quench your thirst with a variety of beers on tap. Just before sunset, stop by Ho'okipa Beach where you'll see sleeping sea turtles as far as the eye can see.
Day 6: Parasailing, Hawaiʻian shave ice and Tour of the Stars
Parasailing is an activity you don't want to miss on your Maui honeymoon itinerary. It's best to go in the morning while the winds are still calm. A misconception about parasailing is that it's scary, but it's actually so quiet and peaceful while you're up there.
After the morning's adventure, enjoy a walk around Whaler's Village, then head back to the Hyatt for some relaxing pool time. If you're still craving adventure, they do have a large waterslide. Hawaiʻi is famous for its shave ice that is so soft in texture that it resembles snow. Luckily, Ululani's has a shave ice stand right next to the pool area. There are so many delicious syrups (made from fresh juices / purées) and toppings to choose from.
Did you know the Hyatt Regency Maui is the world's top hotel for stargazing? A unique opportunity is signing up for their rooftop Tour of the Stars, a stargazing and astronomy lesson. You can see 80 of the 88 constellations in the sky, all lead by the hotel's director of astronomy. What a way to end the day!
Day 7: End your Maui honeymoon itinerary by exploring Ioa Valley, Kula Lavender Farm and Ocean Vodka Distillery
Drive to Wailuku and arrive at Iao Valley, a lush, natural environment in West Maui with scenic hiking trails. The main attraction is Kuka‘emoku (aka the 'Iao Needle), a 1,200 ft. tall rock structure.
About 20 minutes away is the town of Paia, known for its beautiful beaches and laid-back feel. There are several locally owned restaurants to choose from for lunch - Paia Fish Market is a favorite. The town is very walkable and perfect for a leisurely stroll while visiting the shops.
Next, travel about 20 minutes south to the town of Kula. Here you'll find Ali'i Kula Lavender Farm. The majestic lavender fields and gardens make for a peaceful atmosphere with great photo opportunities. Also located in Kula, Ocean Vodka Organic Farm and Distillery is a must-visit. The view alone is worth it; simply stunning. Imbibe some of their craft cocktails and purchase a bottle of the famous Ocean Vodka to take home. It's the final sunset of your honeymoon, so head back to the hotel, grab a beach towel and simply enjoy — the perfect ending to the perfect Maui honeymoon itinerary
