Places to eat & drink in Stockholm
Östermalm and Central Stockholm: My Go Tos
This chic neighborhood is an absolute playground for foodies, brimming with cozy wine bars, hip cafes, and innovative restaurants serving up some of the city's best cuisine. Let me take you on a delicious tour of my favorite spots in Östermalm! Start your Stockholm epicurean adventure in the upscale Östermalm district and central city. The bakery scents wafting from Valhallabageriet will lure you in for some irresistible Swedish pastries. Stora Bageriet is another must-visit - this charming spot is considered one of Stockholm's premier bakeries. Fuel up for exploring at brunch spots like Broms after a morning cycling around Östermalm's chic streets.
As evening falls, cozy wine bars beckon. The Sparrow Vinbar offers an intimate vibe to sip excellent vintages. Tyge & Sessil and Savant Bar - Kaffe & Vin are other great options for wine lovers. Check out Grus Grus. This trendy wine bar has a fantastic selection of natural wines from small European producers. The food menu features seasonal, Mediterranean-inspired dishes like grilled eggplant, roasted bone marrow, and cockles - simple but incredibly flavorful plates designed to pair perfectly with the wines. Cocktail aficionados will be in heaven at places like the speakeasy-style Apropos, a Bar Called Gemma and Coquetel Social.
For dinner, the Asian Post Office is a local favorite while Chelas is supposedly the best Mexican restaurant in town. Bap - Burgers & Pastrami serves up awesome smash burgers. Olli Ristorante and Bistro Leoparden are solid bets for delicious Italian and French cuisine, respectively
Schmaltz Bar & Delicatessen is a great spot to share a Reuben sandwich and sip on creative cocktails. Other notable mentions in Östermalm include Bitza, Savant Bar- Kaffe & Vin, and the super cute Sempre Espresso Bar.
No matter where you dine in Östermalm, you're in for an absolute treat. The neighborhood's culinary scene is innovative, diverse, and most importantly - delicious! Eat, drink, and explore your way through this tasty corner of Stockholm.
Södermalm: A Foodie's Guide to Stockholm's Coolest Neighborhood
If you're heading to Stockholm, get ready to fall in love with Södermalm. This hip island neighborhood south of Gamla Stan (the Old Town) is a foodie's paradise, brimming with cozy cafes, innovative restaurants, and buzzing bars and breweries. From traditional Swedish fare to global flavors, Södermalm has it all. Here's an insider's guide to some of the area's best spots to eat, drink, and soak up the local vibe.
Cocktail Havens
Start your Södermalm adventure at Tjoget, consistently ranked among the world's best bars for its masterfully crafted cocktails and cool, speakeasy ambiance. For a more laidback vibe, check out Bar Afterglow, a cute neighborhood hangout. Indigo is another must for cocktail connoisseurs, with its funky 90s soundtrack and creative drink menu.
Cafe Culture
Fuel up for exploring at cozy spots like Cafe Klotet (recommended by locals), Drop Coffee for stellar brews, or Cafe Bageri Pascal, a go-to for breads and fika (coffee break). Health nuts will love OMAYMA Nytorget's fresh, wholesome fare.
Beer Havens
Craft beer fans, rejoice! Omnipollos Hatt is a Södermalm institution for hoppy pints and wood-fired pizza. In warm months, post up at their outdoor beer garden Omnipollos Flora. Nya Carnegiebryggeriet is another top brewery churning out tasty hazies and other innovative brews.
Global Flavors
From Greek (don't miss Maestro's mouthwatering dishes) to dumplings at Fang Yuan Shi Wu, Södermalm delivers an international smorgasbord. Punk Royale is a must for adventurous eaters - the tasting menu kicks off with caviar served directly in your hand alongside a shot of vodka in this delightfully divey space.
Swedish Classics
For old-school Swedish bites, hit up traditional bakeries like Gunnarsons and Svedjan Bageri (their semlor buns are legendary). Cafe Nizza and La Piccola Nonna are reliable picks for modern Swedish and Neapolitan-style pizza, respectively.
Wine and Dine
Oenophiles will be in heaven bar-hopping Södermalm's cozy wine bars like Ring Katarina, Alba, NOFO, and the award-winning Folii. For a lively night out, don't miss Biblioteket Live, a multi-story dining and entertainment complex housed in a historic library building.
With its endless array of eating and drinking options, Södermalm is a true epicurean playground. Spend a few days strolling its charming streets and you'll quickly see why this neighborhood has become Stockholm's hippest foodie hangout.
Old Town Gamla Stan Gems
No Stockholm food tour is complete without visiting the historic Gamla Stan old town area. Cozy wine bars like Cork Vinbar and Corvina Enoteca offer the perfect places to unwind over some vintages. The Pharmarium cocktail bar in an old apothecary building is a novel experience.
For dinner, Gamla Stan Hof and Slingerbulten are reliable bets for traditional Swedish fare. Or branch out with Indian Street Food & Co's flavorful dishes.
With so many incredible options for eating, drinking and soaking up local culture, Stockholm is a true foodie paradise. Savor every Swedish bite and sip on your next visit!
