Curator’s statement

West Virginia is a place that not many people think of when they are looking for a place with sweeping views. Roaring mountains and deep valleys are some of the main highlights of West Virginia. Farm lands can stretch far along acres of golden wheat dancing in the breeze. This state is not what many can expect, but many are happy that they had the experience.

Day 1: Cave adventure

Green West Virginia

If you're looking for more of an outdoors experience, I would recommend heading towards Smoke Hole Caverns. Smoke Hole Caverns is one of the most unique caverns you will experience. These caverns have ceilings and sides of the ground floor covered with stalactites and stalagmites. The guided tours will take you deep into the caverns and provide a brief historical background.

Day 2: Dolly sods

Dolly Sods

If you are visiting in the fall season, I highly recommend going to Dolly Sods. Its beauty is breathtaking, with the trees displaying all their fall colors. If you are in the mood for some hiking, I would recommend Blackwater Falls. This area exhibits the meaning of a rural and quaint town. This hike not only leads to a peaceful waterfall; it is also great for all levels (even beginners).

Day 3: Shopping & dining

Inside of a mall with multiple stalls.

What's better than ending a trip with some shopping and dining? After all the exploring and hiking, there's is nothing better than a relaxing day. Davis, WV has some small shops that are worth taking a peek at. If you're ready for something good to eat, Wicked Wilderness Pub & Parlor is somewhere you can get a bit to eat and a refreshing beverage. Looking for some craft beers after your adventure? Stumptown Ales Brewery is your stopping place. IPAs on tap and a local favorite.
