Things to do in Puerto Vallarta
Day on the water
Want to feel like an insider? Take a tour to one of the secluded beaches that are only accessible by boat. Start your day on a beautiful boat and cruise the coastline to Playa Las Caletas. Once a private retreat of film director John Huston, today a playground for all ages. Enjoy a tropical drink while swinging in a hammock above the clear blue water. Kayak or snorkel along the coast. Kids, or kids at heart, can zipline or try the waterslides. Excellent food and exploring the wildlife preserve will keep you entertained and satisfied.
Insider tip: You can have this secluded beach to get married! Can you imagine transporting the most important people in your life to a secluded beach to say I do? That is one wedding they will never forget.
Want something more secluded? Try Marietas Island. The Marietas islands are a small group of islands off the coast. The islands are uninhabited and a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Explore hidden beaches. Excellent opportunity to snorkel and even view some endangered birds and spot some humpback whales.
Let's take it down a bit the next day and explore the culture of the city. The Malecon is the perfect place to stroll, grab a bite to eat and shop. This pedestrian-only boardwalk affords stunning ocean views while sipping local tequila and checking out the traditional art and handicrafts.
Head over to the Zona Romantic, a lively neighborhood of cobblestone streets, a charming town square and local food vendors mingling with tourists and ex-pats. Shopping, nightlife and entertainment are a snapshot of Mexican lifestyle and culture. Both welcoming and eclectic, there is something for everyone.
Places to eat & drink in Puerto Vallarta
I can't think of a romantic spot for dinner or even a proposal better than Le Kliff. This magnificent cliff-side restaurant boasts fine dining and fine cocktails overlooking the spectacular Bandaras bay. This multi-level, charming and romantic spot makes everyone feel like a VIP who just got the best table with the best view. The ocean breeze and the sound of the waves crashing below and enough to make anyone feel romantic. Sample the local seafood in sumptuous sauces and expert presentation in a magical setting. Insider tip: This spot hosts proposals and weddings on the regular, so if you are feeling extra romantic, this is THE spot!
La Palapa - I think this beachfront restaurant in the romantic zone is always a must-visit while in Puerto Vallarta. Tropical Mexican Cuisine, under the palapa, magical views of the ocean and the pier, yes please! The food is outstanding, but the sunset steals the show. Family-friendly, but a great spot for a romantic or group dinner. Choose from toes in the sand or a spot at the bar. This place is always a favorite.
