Curator’s statement

The Pacific Northwest is a place of striking contrasts — where dramatic landscapes blend with quiet, intimate moments. The mist rising from Snoqualmie Falls is truly awe-inspiring, while the peacefulness of Orcas Island feels like stepping into a hidden sanctuary. And then there's Woodinville, where rolling vineyards provide a perfect, relaxing conclusion to the journey. This itinerary captures what I love most about the region: its raw, natural beauty, the sense of escape it offers and experiences that feel truly off the beaten path. Whether you're hiking through ancient forests or enjoying a wine flight with sweeping vineyard views, this trip strikes just the right balance between adventure and relaxation.

Day 1: Arrival in Snoqualmie

A rocky river stream in the forest during the daytime

Arrive at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA): Pick up your rental car and drive to Snoqualmie (45 minutes). Be sure to stop at Jakob Two Trees in Issaquah along the way, a 14-foot-tall troll made of recycled materials. It’s a symbol of environmental protection and a fun, quirky photo opportunity.

Check-in at Salish Lodge & Spa: Perched above the 268-foot Snoqualmie Falls, this luxury mountain retreat offers rooms with fireplaces, a serene spa, in-room dining and complimentary valet parking. You can hear the sound of the falls from your room, creating a soothing ambiance. Insider tip: Work with me to book a patio room for direct access to the outdoors via your own private patio, where a fire pit is lit for you each evening, creating a perfect space to unwind.

Dinner at South Fork North Bend: This farm-to-table restaurant is a fantastic stop for casual yet delicious dining. With outdoor seating, it’s perfect for families and groups. I recommend the deconstructed banh mi with tofu for vegetarians and the black Caesar salad with salmon for something hearty yet fresh.

Day 2: Exploring Snoqualmie

Plates of breakfast food and cups of coffee on a table

Breakfast at The Lounge at Salish Lodge: Indulge in seasonal dishes made from locally sourced ingredients. Don’t miss the honey from heaven experience — a real treat where honey from the lodge’s own hives is poured over your biscuit and seasonal house-made jam.

Hike Snoqualmie Falls: This easy 1.4-mile round-trip hike takes you to the base of the falls, where you can feel the mist on your face. Along the way, you’ll find signs with interesting facts about the local flora and fauna. Insider tip: Start early to avoid the crowds and enjoy the falls in peace.

Hike Twin Falls Trail: A moderate 2.5-mile hike through old-growth forests along a riverbed, culminating in views of Twin Falls. The dense ferns and moss make it feel like you’re in a magical forest. Perfect for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.

Lunch at North Bend Bar & Grille: Enjoy hearty American comfort food with local favorites like burgers and salads. The outdoor patio is a great spot to soak in the sun and take a break.

Gold Creek Pond Loop: One of my favorite spots! This easy, paved 1.2-mile loop offers stunning views of the pond and surrounding mountains. It’s the perfect place for a quiet, reflective walk or a picnic. Pack some snacks and sit by the water for a peaceful afternoon.

Relax at Salish Lodge Spa: Treat yourself to a relaxing spa session. The award-winning spa features a steam room, sauna and waterfall hot tub. Reservations are required, and it’s the perfect way to unwind after a day of hiking.

Dinner at The Grange in Duvall: A farm-to-table restaurant that truly embodies the spirit of the Pacific Northwest. The menu changes seasonally, offering dishes crafted from local produce and meats. Insider tip: Ask the staff about their local farms and suppliers — they’re passionate about the food and love to share stories. It’s a great place for a romantic dinner or a cozy meal after a day of adventure.

Day 3: Travel to Orcas Island

Drive to Anacortes Ferry Terminal: Ferry reservations are highly recommended and sell out fast. Reservations can be made two months, two weeks and two days in advance at 7 am Pacific time.

Take the ferry to Orcas Island: The ferry ride itself is a highlight, with stunning views of the San Juan Islands. Bundle up and head to the deck for the best views — you might spot whales on your journey!

Visit Orcas Island Pottery: This unique pottery studio is set in a forested area with breathtaking water views. Wander through the outdoor exhibits and even explore the treehouse. Insider tip: Take a moment to chat with the artisans — they’re incredibly friendly and love to talk about their craft.

Lunch at Madrona Bar & Grill: Located in Eastsound, this spot offers fresh, locally sourced dishes with one of the best waterfront views on the island. The seafood is a must-try, and the patio is perfect for soaking in the surroundings.

Explore Eastsound: This charming town is perfect for exploring on foot. Stop by Girl Meets Dirt for award-winning artisan preserves, indulge in ice cream at Clever Cow Creamery, browse Darvill's Bookstore for a good read and pick up pastries at Brown Bear Baking. Wine lovers shouldn’t miss The Orcas Project, where you can enjoy wine tastings in a beautiful flower-filled garden. Insider tip: Time your visit to Indian Island during low-tide to walk across the sandbar and explore tide pools.

Check-in at Inn at Ship Bay: This historic waterfront inn offers boutique accommodations with serene bay views. Relax on your private balcony as you take in the sunset over the water. Insider tip: Book a room facing the water for the best views, and don’t miss walking through their organic garden.

Dinner at Inn at Ship Bay: Dine on farm-to-table dishes crafted from local, seasonal ingredients. The inn’s restaurant is known for its innovative, fresh meals — perfect for foodies looking for something special.

Day 4: Orcas Island adventures

Hike the Cascade Falls Trail: This short, easy 0.8-mile loop takes you through lush forest to a beautiful waterfall. It’s a peaceful morning walk perfect for birdwatching and nature photography.

Drive to Mount Constitution Lookout: As the highest point in the San Juan Islands, Mount Constitution offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding islands and even into Canada on a clear day. Bring a camera — you’ll want to capture these views.

Explore Olga: This quaint seaside town is one of my favorite spots on the island. Visit Orcas Island Artworks in a beautifully restored strawberry-packing plant to see unique 3D art from local artists. Don’t miss the nearby Olga Store & Co-op, a historic shop that was once featured on an Emmylou Harris album cover. It’s the perfect spot to grab snacks or take a walk down the pier.

Sunset at Obstruction Pass State Park: A short, easy 1.4-mile hike brings you to a secluded beach that’s perfect for watching the sun set over the water. Bring a blanket and some snacks to fully enjoy the moment.

Happy hour at The Barnacle: Enjoy handcrafted cocktails made with local ingredients in this cozy Eastsound bar. Pro tip: Ask about their seasonal cocktail featuring local herbs.

Dinner at Mijitas Mexican Kitchen: End your day with authentic Mexican cuisine on the outdoor patio. The tacos and margaritas are exceptional, and the casual, relaxed atmosphere makes it a great spot to unwind.

Day 5: Travel to Woodinville

A view from land of a body of water during the daytime

Take the ferry back to Anacortes: Enjoy one last scenic ferry ride as you return to the mainland.

Drive to Woodinville: The route through Skagit Valley is peaceful and beautiful, with views of Puget Sound and local farmland.

Check-in at Willows Lodge: This luxurious retreat in the heart of Woodinville Wine Country offers spacious rooms with fireplaces, soaking tubs and access to a spa with hydrotherapy pools, saunas and outdoor fire pits. Insider tip: Borrow bicycles from the lodge and explore the nearby flower fields, or stroll through the herb garden.

Brunch at Barking Frog: This upscale restaurant offers a delicious farm-to-table brunch. The dungeness crab cake benedict is a must-try, as is the Grand Marnier French toast.

Wine tasting at Chateau Ste. Michelle: Washington’s oldest winery is set on beautiful French estate-style grounds. Wander through the gardens before enjoying a wine flight that showcases their renowned rieslings and cabernets.

Wine tasting at Novelty Hill-Januik: A modern winery with sleek architecture, a bocce ball court and award-winning wines. I love their merlots, and the bocce ball is a fun way to pass the time between tastings.

Wine tasting at DeLille Cellars: Specializing in Bordeaux-style blends, DeLille offers tastings on their scenic patio. Pro tip: Book a lunch reservation at their restaurant for a full food-and-wine pairing experience.

Dinner at The Herb Farm: End your trip with a multi-course dining experience at this prestigious restaurant. Each dish is paired with local wines, making it the perfect conclusion to your Woodinville visit.

Day 6: Departure
